The LLCC Police Department’s inaugural Coffee with a Cop event, which took place on Oct. 25, was a great success. Over 100 students and staff took the time to visit with our officers. We would like to thank everyone who donated their time and resources to the event. It would not have been possible without your help!

Lincoln Commons, officers from LLCC Police Department and the LLCC community (students, faculty and staff) will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss issues, build relationships, drink coffee and enjoy refreshments. Everyone is invited to attend.

“Coffee with a Cop” provides a unique opportunity for individuals to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work.

The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building, and some individuals may feel that officers are unapproachable on campus. “Coffee with a Cop” is designed to break down barriers and allows for relaxed, one-on-one interactions.

“We hope that students, faculty and staff will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns or simply get to know our officers,” says LLCC Police Chief Brad Gentry. Continue reading →

Congratulations to LLCC Police Officer David Mahan on being nominated for a Law Enforcement Award by the Taylorville Optimist Club.  Eleven community members nominated for the award will be recognized, and the winner announced, at the Salute to Law Enforcement breakfast on May 12.

Please note that the parking lot near the Trutter Center will be blocked off on Wednesday while the IL Secretary of State Bomb Unit conducts demonstrations for the Intro to Law Enforcement class from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Governor Rauner has issued a proclamation that the U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff beginning at sunrise Wednesday, Dec. 9 to  sunset Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 in honor of firefighter Mark Zielinski, Matteson Fire Department.
