Officers from the LLCC Police Department and the LLCC community (students, faculty and staff) are invited to come together today, Sept. 10t in an informal, neutral space to discuss issues, build relationships and enjoy a cup of coffee. Come join us from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons.

“Coffee with a Cop” provides a unique opportunity for individuals to ask questions, bring concerns and learn more about the department’s work.

The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building, and some individuals may feel that officers are unapproachable on campus. “Coffee with a Cop” is designed to break down barriers and allows for relaxed, one-on-one interactions.

“Coffee with a Cop” is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

The program aims to advance relationships between police officers and individuals one cup of coffee at a time.

The LLCC Police Department would like to remind everyone that severe weather season is upon us here in central Illinois.

Please keep the following in mind:

• When a TORNADO WATCH is issued, it means that conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes, and you should keep an eye on the weather forecast for any changes or updates. When a TORNADO WARNING is issued, it means that a tornado has actually been spotted and/or indicated by radar in the warned area.
• Locations of each building’s Severe Weather Safe Areas (SWSA) are clearly marked on the evacuation maps posted in all classrooms and common areas on campus. These areas are highlighted in yellow on the maps. Please take a few moments and familiarize yourself with these locations for the buildings you frequent.
• If one of our locations is in the path of a severe weather event, the college will send an emergency message via the LLCC ALERT emergency notification system. This system sends messages via text and voicemail on your cell phone, voicemail on your office phone and email. If you receive an alert message, proceed to the nearest SWSA in the building you are in. If you cannot remember where the SWSA is located, go to an interior room on a lower floor of the building, away from any windows. An “all clear” message will be sent when the threat has passed. At that time, normal activities can resume.

In addition to the evacuation maps, each classroom and office should have an Emergency Quick Reference Manual (EQRM) posted. The EQRM is color-coded, and contains basic information regarding actions you should take in a variety of emergency situations. It is a good idea to take a few minutes each semester to familiarize yourself with its contents. For replacement EQRMs, please contact the LLCC Police Department, at 786-2278.

The LLCC Police Department’s eighth “Coffee With a Cop” event, which took place during Student Welcome Week, was a great success! Over 175 students took the time to visit with our officers. The LLCC Police Department’s first series of “Coffee With a Cop” events at LLCC Outreach Centers was a great success. They took place at Beardstown, Jacksonville, Litchfield and Taylorville. One event was held at each location over the past four weeks. There were 76 total students that took the time to visit with our officers. We would like to thank everyone that donated their time and resources to the event. It would not have been possible without your help!

LLCC Police Department

On Wednesday, Dec. 20, LLCCPD personnel will be conducting routine testing on the college’s Visiplex emergency notification system between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. This testing is conducted one building at a time and involves activating pre-recorded emergency messages so officers can confirm proper functioning of the system.

The following LLCC Police Department forms, previously located on the old employee portal system, have been migrated to the KBOX system:

• Student Use of Facilities During Non-Business Hours Request
• Extended Stay Vehicle Form
• Student Volunteer Review Form

These forms are now all accessed via the ITS Helpdesk icon located on your desktop.
