In an effort to help avoid any inconveniences during the Winter Recess this year, Facilities Services would like to remind all LLCC faculty and staff that the college will be officially closed, as posted on the academic calendar, from Saturday, Dec. 20-Monday, Jan. 4.

During times when the college is closed, building conditions are not maintained at usual levels. Temperatures are lowered, lighting levels are at a minimum, and access to buildings could be restricted. Snow and ice removal is also kept to a necessary minimum.

We have scheduled several projects during Winter Recess, outside of the normal schedule, to keep disruption to a minimum. Carpet will be replaced in the first floor hallway of Menard Hall, from the southeast entrance to the Vice Presidents’ offices, as well as in the connecting corridor between Human Resources and the Finance Office. Access to these areas will be limited. We will be refinishing the floor in Cass Gym and it will be inaccessible as well. We also have scheduled a power outage for parts of Menard Hall so that we may safely install a new electrical service.

We encourage anyone needing to visit the college over Winter Recess to check in with the LLCC Police Dept. by calling 622-3853.

The LLCC Facilities Services department plans to conduct controlled burns in the prairie areas on the Springfield campus Friday, Nov. 21 as weather permits. The burns will be conducted on the upper prairie on the north side of Menard Hall, the west side of the Workforce Careers Center and on both sides of the entrance to campus. In case of inclement weather, the burns will be rescheduled.

The burns have been approved by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

Today, beginning at 6:00 a.m., we will be completing the removal of the last of the variable frequency drives from the roofs of Menard Hall.  The first of the two “picks” using a boom truck will be from the loading dock area.  The second will be in front of the third set of doors (the ones leading to Cass) on the east side of Menard.  The operation should be completed within 2-3 hours.  We will be taking the necessary safety precautions, but your cooperation, and awareness, will be appreciated.

This morning,  we will again be using a truck crane in front of the Commons, as well as the east side of Menard Hall.  For safety, we will be blocking the 10 minute parking spaces on the east side of Menard Hall until the lift is completed.  We anticipate completion by midday.  We appreciate your cooperation and patience.

Facilities Services will be performing annual testing of the fire alarm systems for all buildings today through Tuesday, Aug. 19. It will be necessary to activate the horns and strobes periodically. Disruptions will be kept to a minimum as much as possible.

There may be comfort issues in Sangamon Hall on Monday and Tuesday of this week due to a mechanical failure in the air conditioning system.
