Facilities Services is conducting testing of the electrical generator system beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27. Power outages in Sangamon Hall, Menard Hall, Cass Gym, Millennium Center and  Trutter Center are necessary during these tests. Thursday, Nov. 19 – Parking Lot #1 will be reserved to accommodate valet parking for LLCC Foundation Donor Scholarship Reception, 5-7 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 21 – Jingle Bell Run activities, 8 a.m.-noon/run at 10 a.m. Police and Security will be directing traffic at the main entrance of campus. There may be some delay upon entering campus shortly after 10 a.m. and traffic will be reduced to one lane during run.

Monday, Nov. 23 – Parking Lot #10 will be reserved for bus parking to accommodate LLCC’s Agriculture Career Expo, 9:30 a.m.–2 p.m.

Facilities Services would like to remind all faculty and staff that in order to meet the needs of scheduled classes and events, all furniture in a specific room or area must remain in that space. The number and style of seats, desks and furniture is specific to each room and is governed by building codes and ICCB recommendations. LLCC manages furniture distribution through the work order system.
When requesting a furniture move, simply select “Furniture Move” for the request type when filling out a work order. If the request is approved, Facilities staff will coordinate the move as soon as possible.
Faculty and staff who are in need of additional furniture should contact Matt Hobrock, property control technician, before considering a new purchase. There is a good chance that something will be available from storage.

Facilities Services is conducting annual testing of the fire alarm system in the Millennium Center this Friday morning, Aug. 28. The test had to be rescheduled due to a mechanical failure. While it will be necessary to sound the alarm during this test, disruptions will be kept to a minimum and should be complete before classes begin.

With the start of classes right around the corner, I thought I would provide an update on campus renovation projects. I would like to thank you for your patience with having to wind your way around barricades, machinery and tradesmen the last few months.

The masonry project is behind schedule, mainly due to the month of rain we endured. Cass Gym and Sangamon Hall are complete; however, with Menard Hall we are concentrating on getting as much of the grinding out of the way as we can prior to classes. We will begin grinding the area outside of the second floor classroom at the northeast corner of Menard so as to not disrupt anyone occupying it. We are also concentrating on the grinding on the east side of Menard, in order to have all the doors available the first days of classes. Tuck-pointing is a quiet operation, so we’re trying to get as much of the noise-producing work out of the way. The southeast entrance to Menard is now open.

The sidewalk lighting project on the sidewalk west of Millennium Center and east of Trutter Center is virtually complete. We have a closeout meeting this Thursday and expect that the lights will be operable that day/evening.

The Sangamon Hall stair project (west side) is slightly behind schedule. The structure has been erected, but we are awaiting the delivery of the stair treads, which we expect on Aug. 26. The stairs should be in use by the end of the month, if all goes smoothly.

The concrete work in the breezeway between Sangamon Hall and Sangamon South should be completed by the end of the week, with only caulking remaining to do. It will be ready for the start of classes.

We are on schedule with the Truck Driver Training lot. The removal of the old concrete is complete, and the grading and gravel installation will be complete on Friday. We will begin placing concrete on Thursday.

We have completed the roof at Montgomery Hall, the parking lot at the Capital City Training Center and the removal and replacement of the entry slabs at the Workforce Careers Center.
