Water main work begins tomorrow
Starting on Friday, Sept. 20, CWLP will begin extension of existing water mains on the Springfield campus. The work area will be located in front of Mason Hall, along the east end of campus near the new ag building site and up to an area in front to Cass Gym. We do not anticipate any water outages as a part of this work. We anticipate this work to take approximately 2-3 weeks from start to finish. Please use caution and be aware of all construction traffic as you drive and walk in these areas as the work will be in close proximity to sidewalks. Contractors on far east end of campus starting Sept. 16
Starting on Monday, Sept. 16, contractors will begin mobilizing on the far east end of campus in Parking Lot 18 for construction of the new ag building. We have asked them to provide barriers so that no one has access to Lot 18 during construction which will continue into fall 2020. Please use caution, and be aware of all construction traffic as you drive and walk in and around that area. Accessible parking spaces
As everyone returns to the Springfield campus for the fall semester, please note that some accessible parking spaces have been relocated in various parking lots. As part of the site paving project, we have made a specific effort to group these as close as possible to buildings and provide a striped crosswalk on an accessible route to get to the nearest building. We hope to increase the overall safety and convenience for anyone that utilizes the accessible parking spaces. Concrete work in front of bus stop near Sangamon Hall
As a part of the ongoing site paving project on the LLCC campus in Springfield, starting on Wednesday, Aug. 14 contractors will need to remove and replace concrete immediately in front of the bus stop near Sangamon Hall. We anticipate that the bus will continue to operate on its usual route and stop just after the location of the construction activities. This area will open back up before classes start on Monday, Aug. 19. Please use caution, and follow all construction traffic signs, cones/barrels and directions at all times. Fire alarm testing Aug. 5-9
LLCC Facilities Services is coordinating testing and inspection of the fire alarm systems in college buildings during the week of Aug. 5-9, 2019. During the testing, it will be necessary to sound the horns and activate the strobes, but we will strive to keep disruptions to a minimum. Thank you for your patience as we perform these necessary life safety tests.
LLCC-Litchfield and LLCC-Jacksonville harnessing the power of the sun
LLCC is working with WindSolarUSA and Senergy Electric to install rooftop solar panels at its Litchfield and Jacksonville locations. The installation at LLCC-Litchfield is nearly complete, and the project at LLCC-Jacksonville begins today, Aug. 5. The solar panels are expected to offset 95 percent of LLCC’s electrical consumption at Litchfield and 75 percent of its electrical consumption at Jacksonville.
“The benefits of investing in these alternative energy projects include energy cost savings, carbon emission reduction and support of the college’s long-standing commitment to sustainable practices,” explains Tim Ervin, LLCC director of construction and environmental health and safety.
LLCC’s solar installations are part of the Illinois Power Agency’s Adjustable Block Program, a state program providing incentives for solar photovoltaic systems. Illinois has committed to produce 25 percent of its electricity from renewable energy by 2025. The renewable energy credits provided back to the grid by the solar panels LLCC is hosting will help the state meet its renewable energy requirement.
“In addition to the energy savings, as a part of the state program, the college will see program incentive payments of more than $100,000 per site over a period of five years to help cover the cost of installation,” adds Ervin.
The installation at LLCC-Litchfield includes a 124.5 kW system with 415 modules on the south slopes of the administration as well as arts and technology buildings. Contractors will be installing a 156.4 kW system with 434 modules on the roof at LLCC-Jacksonville. The work is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.
The solar installations will have module-level monitoring, allowing for real-time observation of each solar panel’s performance for maintenance and use as an educational tool in classrooms.
Natural gas work begins Monday for Mason Hall and Facilities shed
Starting on Monday, Aug. 5, Ameren will begin replacing natural gas service for Mason Hall and the facilities shed on the Springfield campus. No outages are anticipated as a part of this work. They will have directional boring and other machines set up near Mason Hall and along the east prairie for approximately two weeks. Please use caution and be aware of all construction traffic as you drive and walk on the south and east sides of the Springfield campus during this time. Solar panel installation at LLCC-Jacksonville begins Aug. 5
Starting on Monday, Aug. 5, contractors will begin installing solar panels on the roof at LLCC-Jacksonville. We anticipate this work will take approximately 30-45 calendar days to complete. Contractors will be sure to maintain access to the building at all times. Please use caution and be aware of all construction traffic and materials being lifted up on to the roof during this time period. Montgomery Hall and Cass Gym lots closed starting today
As a part of the ongoing site paving project on the Springfield campus, contractors will need to close the entire lot in front of Montgomery Hall and the entire lot behind Cass Gym to replace paving starting on Wednesday, July 24. It is anticipated that that both lots will be closed for several days. Please make plans and allow time to park in other areas during this time.
