Jerry Wesley, vice chair, LLCC Board of Trustees, wrote an essay entitled, “Community College: the affordable choice” in the SJ-R Our Towns page Sunday, Feb. 7.

LLCC student Keith Treadwell, president of the Black Student Union, was interviewed by WICS/FOX 55 TV regarding the BSU’s voter registration drive Feb. 8. Laurie Clemmons, academic advisor, was filmed registering students to vote.

WICS/FOX 55 filmed scenes from two Academy of Lifelong Learning events in the past week. Chief meteorologist Cheryl Lehmke spoke at the ALL Winter Celebration Jan. 29, and anchor Jenn Sullivan spoke to the ALL Breakfast Roundtable Feb. 4.

Marnie Record, workforce specialist, is this week’s author of the SJ-R’s Epicuriosity 101 column with “Plan now for your best garden ever!”

Julie Rourke, director, Workforce Development, was interviewed by WICS about a shortage of workers in Illinois manufacturing and the LLCC Workforce programs preparing students for work in the industry.

LLCC was featured in a story on WICS-TV and an article in the SJ-R regarding the Worldwide Youth Science and Engineering (WYSE) regional level academic challenge held on campus Feb. 2. More than 350 high school students from 22 area high schools competed at the event.

Dr. John Vinzant, professor of political science, was interviewed on the Iowa caucuses yesterday morning on WTAX’s Morning Newswatch. John is not only an expert on the subject, but is also from Iowa and has participated in the caucuses. Hear the interview.

Cassie Aldridge, LLCC adult education student, was interviewed for this story on the GED lowering its passing score. It was previously noted that Lyn Buerkett, director of adult education and literacy, was also interviewed for the story.
