Marnie Record, workforce specialist, was interviewed Oct. 11 by the State Journal-Register on plans for a new Springfield Winter Market in the Enos Park neighborhood. As part of the USDA Local Food Promotion Program grant that LLCC received in fall 2014, the college is working on starting a kitchen incubator where individuals can rent space to make or develop food products without the often prohibitive expense of starting a kitchen of their own. In addition, a committee has formed, including a wide range of community members and organizations, to start the Springfield Winter Market, which will run monthly, January through April. The market will feature many of the same farmers that attend existing Springfield markets selling products such as meat, dairy, produce, baked goods and prepared foods. The market is being established to offer consumers an opportunity to purchase local food year-round and create a market for area farmers to sell their products directly to consumers in the winter.

 Janet Semanik, development specialist, Foundation, was interviewed for an Illinois Times article about the new Trutter Museum exhibit, “Trutter: Black and White.”

Janice Lovekamp, program director, Surgical Technology, was interviewed by WTIM radio/taylorvilledailynews.com on the program receiving the annual merit award from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting for achieving a 100 percent pass rate on the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination.

Scott Stallman, associate vice president, educational outreach, was interviewed Sept. 29 on the WTIM morning talk show. He discussed spring classes, registration dates, the new FAFSA filing date, student life activities and upcoming community education classes at LLCC-Taylorville.

Julie Rourke, director, workforce development; Tom Spears, program coordinator, workforce development; and students Maurice Reynolds, Frederick Joiner and Gwen Capella were interviewed for the story.
