Representative Wayne Rosenthal, a retired Brigadier General of the Illinois Air National Guard and LLCC trustee, along with Jeffrey Surbeck, LLCC student and Specialist with the Illinois Army National Guard, were interviewed Nov. 11 about the 18th annual Veterans Day Ceremony.

Jolene Adams, LLCC adjunct culinary instructor, was featured on the WICS Midday Show cooking segment Nov. 11. Jolene demonstrated Pumpkin & Ricotta Crepes with Carmelized Onions and Spinach, which can be found HERE.

Bill Bade, dean, Math and Sciences, and a U.S. Navy Veteran, along with LLCC student veterans Brandi Kleb and Jeff Surbeck, were interviewed Nov. 8 by WICS regarding Veteran’s Day. The interviews aired between 5-7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 on the WICS Sunrise program.

The LLCC Response Team assisted coal miners facing layoffs as part of a Rapid Response event in Waggoner Nov. 6 and 7. The team was represented Nov. 6 by Mac Warren, assistant director, Recruitment and Response, who is shown in this story on WICS. The team was there for all four sessions of the workshop Nov. 6 and 7.

Marnie Record, workforce specialist, was interviewed for an article entitled “Sustainability in the Culinary Arts” published in the October 2013 issue of College Planning & Management magazine. Read the article HERE.

Kathy Rem, retiring food editor at the State Journal-Register, mentioned LLCC in her final column Nov. 6, referring to how the city’s food scape has changed since she began her column in 2000: “Lincoln Land College’s state-of-the-art teaching kitchens in the new Workforce Careers Center, where chefs of the future are being trained and local residents have a chance to learn new skills as well.”

LLCC was included in the SJ-R editorial Tuesday.  Michael Higgins, chef/owner of Maldaner’s restaurant, received a grant to install solar panels on the restaurant rooftop  from the Illinois Green Economy Network through a partnership with LLCC that enables students to follow the installation process and track energy savings. Scott Stallman was interviewed Nov. 4 on WTIM’s “Ask The Professional.” He discussed the LLCC Board of Trustees approval of a resolution to seek approval from ICCB to renovate the original LLCC-Taylorville building. He also discussed upcoming spring registration, Community Education workshops and student activities at LLCC-Taylorville.

Linda Chriswell, special needs professional, and Maryjane Million, operations analyst, LLCC-Jacksonville/Beardstown, were quoted in this article in the Jacksonville Journal-Courier Oct. 25 about the “Fall Festival Celebrating Exceptional People” held at LLCC-Jacksonville Oct. 24. A unique class project gave residents of two group homes a chance to enjoy pumpkin decorating, face painting, balloon animals, games. The event was planned and hosted by LLCC students as part of their “exceptional child” education coursework.

Scott Stallman, executive director, LLCC-Taylorville/Litchfield/Hillsboro, was interviewed Oct. 25 for an article in the Taylorville Breeze-Courier regarding an upcoming construction project at LLCC-Taylorville, pending ICCB approval, along with enrollment increases in that education service area.

Bill Harmon, professor of agronomy, and two LLCC ag students were interviewed Oct. 25 by Sports Radio 1450 while in Bloomington for the Illinois Post-secondary Agriculture Student (PAS) Fall Conference. LLCC had 15 students competing in seven different areas.

Four LLCC students were featured in this inspiring story by SJR’s Dave Bakke Oct. 25. Cancer brought them together as their friendship has grown.
