Reminder – Active Learning through Group Work online workshop starts today

Active Learning through Group Work – Online! Tuesday, Nov. 16– Friday, Nov. 19, 2021

Delivery – Online Amy Chernowsky, Instructional Designer

In this session, we’ll explore the idea of synchronous and asynchronous active learning through group work as an instructional strategy in courses. We’ll work in groups as we discuss group formation techniques and group rules, group work pedagogy and communication strategies. Finally, we’ll look at group work grading rubrics and evaluation. Current Online Faculty participating in the Online Proficiency Program can receive 6 points for successful completion of this workshop.

Canvas Release Notes (11-11-21)

Instructure periodically releases information on new and updated features for the Canvas Learning Management System. This Canvas communication is to make you aware of some notable new and/or updated Canvas features that were planned for November 11, 2021 that may be of interest to instructors. Updated Features

  1. Assignments – Submission Feedback Indicator – Instructors & Students 

    • In the Assignment Details page, the Show Rubric and View Feedback links indicate when new comments have been added as an annotation or in a rubric.
    • This change allows students to see when new comments have been added to a submission
  2. SpeedGrader – Assignment Text Entry Word Count – Instructors 

    • The word count for assignment text submissions is displayed in SpeedGrader.
    • This change allows instructors to display the word count in assignment text submissions while grading in SpeedGrader.

Release Previews

  1. New Quizzes – Assignment and Quizzes Build Link – Instructors 
    • New Quizzes in Assignments and Quizzes pages include a link to the quiz Build page.
    • This change allows users to bypass the assignment details page and quickly access the quiz Build page.

  2. New Quizzes – Stimulus Orientation – Instructors 

    • The Stimulus type includes the ability to choose if the related questions appear to the right or below. 
    • This change allows instructors to control the presentation of an item’s stimulus, functionality that is useful when printing quizzes or when adding narrative stimulus content.

Spring 2022 courses are available in Canvas 

Spring 2022 course sections are now available and ready for transfer of course materials. Please read below for information and resources related to moving course content into your Spring 2022 course shells in Canvas.

Resetting course content option now available in Canvas

The option to Reset Course Content has recently been made available to faculty in Canvas. This option will permanently delete all associated course content in a Canvas course shell, allowing you to build from a blank shell. This video focuses on directions for Resetting Course Content in a Canvas Shell.
