Items collected at LLCC-Litchfield

LLCC-Taylorville and Litchfield hosted a Thanksgiving food drive during the month of November as one of the 50 acts of service to celebrate LLCC’s 50th anniversary.  Between the two locations, nearly 900 non-perishable food items were collected.  The food items will be donated to Montgomery County CEFS  food pantry, Taylorville Emergency Food Pantry and the Thanksgiving Food Basket Project.  The class that donated the most items at each location won a pizza party.  The winning class at Litchfield was Developmental Beginning Algebra II (MAT 092) taught by Ann Todt and the winning class at Taylorville was Criminology (CRJ 101) taught by Jerrilyn Dixon.

50 Acts of Service

Does your class have a service project coming up? Know a group of faculty, staff or students that has a community service project planned? Be sure to let us know and we will get it listed on the 50 Acts of Service webpage. If you have donated your time anywhere throughout your community on behalf of LLCC, log onto the webpage to complete the google form so we can track all of our hours, too! So far, we have over 60 service projects on the schedule! Thank you LLCC!

1 minute & 1 photo= $1 for an awesome charity!

jnjAs part of the 50 Acts of Service in conjunction with the college’s 50th Anniversary, LLCC faculty, staff, and students are invited to Donate a Photo. Johnson and Johnson is allowing everyone to “Donate A Photo” once a day and they will donate $1 of their own money to a cause you want to support like United Way, Operation Smile, American Diabetes Association, USO and many more. All you have to do is download the free “Donate a Photo” app, then every day you can upload a photo using #DAPLeslie and Johnson and Johnson will donate $1 to the charity you choose. Yes, that is correct- Johnson and Johnson will donate THEIR money to a cause YOU want to support. You can go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p60OG4odcJI to learn more.

Leslie Johnson, AVP, Student Success is trying to get 3,000 photos uploaded by Nov. 30 to the Donate a Photo app. Please put #DAPLeslie when you upload your photo, so we can track LLCC’s donation power! Feel free to spread the word to any family, friend, or stranger in the grocery store, and don’t forget to add #DAPLeslie. Please contact Leslie Johnson at leslie.johnson@llcc.edu or 786-2848 with any questions, or to check on our progress towards the $3,000 goal.

Join the LLCC team to help at Girls on the Run!

As part of the 50 Acts of Service in conjunction with the college’s 50th Anniversary, LLCC is putting together a WATER STOP team to volunteer at the Girls on the Run 5K. All staff and faculty are welcome to participate. Please sign up by Oct. 27! If you would like to join the volunteer team or if you have any questions, email Laurel.Bretz@llcc.edu.

Date: Saturday, November 5, 2016
Time: 9:30a.m.-noon
Location: Lincoln Land Community College

Volunteer Role Description:

  • The Water Stop Team will meet at the Volunteer Check-In Tent and walk out to the corner of Shepherd Road and West Lake Shore Drive. There are two water stops, with two tables each, directly across the road from each other.
  • As volunteers arrive, begin filling cups. There will be water barrels and pitchers to help fill the cups. Volunteers will need to fill two levels of cups on each table (use Styrofoam boards to separate) to handle the rush of runners that will arrive. Supplies include tables, water barrels, pitchers, cups, Styrofoam boards, trash bags and rakes.
  • As you operate the water stop, some volunteers should continually be filling cups while the majority of people line the road and hand out water.
  • You do not need to fill the cups all the way up – they should be filled about half-way or even less. This is proper race etiquette so that participants will keep running/walking and to ensure there is plenty of water for all participants.
  • Cheer the participants on and have fun!
  • After the final race sweeper and/or SportsCare follow car comes through (indicating no other runners/walkers remain on the course) the team can clean up the area by raking up all used paper cups and putting in garbage bags. Move the water stop tables, trash cans, and supplies off of the side of the road, clearing the area for traffic. The supplies will be picked up by the truck after the race.
  • Be on the lookout for girls – or community runners – who may need assistance. There will be additional First Aid volunteers stationed at the Water Stop.
