ISAC OFFERING SERIES 2: FINANCIAL AID CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AT LLCC FEB. 4

LLCC is hosting the Series 2, 2015-16 Financial Aid Certification Program workshop Feb. 4 in Montgomery Hall, rooms 11/43-44. Online registration is available at isac.org/financialaidcertification.

To assist individuals in helping students with the financial aid process and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), ISAC offers free professional development opportunities for counselors, mentors and community partners through an annual certification series of training modules. Workshops give professionals a detailed understanding of the financial aid process and its programs through the use of case study scenarios and real-life examples.

FAFSA Expert Training

In this session, participants will learn about current financial aid concepts, tools and resources at the state and federal level through an update from ISAC and the U.S. Department of Education. Attendees will also learn about the changes to the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculation for 2016-2017. Learn how factors such as parents’ age, income, savings and family size are used in the federal methodology to determine the EFC. Using demonstrative scenarios, participants will complete guided calculations to learn the intricacies of determining financial need using Federal Methodology. In addition, attendees will receive a printed resource, the FAFSA Expert Guide, designed specifically for counselors and mentors to use when assisting students completing the FAFSA. Participants will also learn how to analyze information in award letters and receive a helpful tool, the Financial Aid Comparison Worksheet, they can use when working with students.
