Congratulations to Maryjane Million, enrollment operations coordinator, whom the Jacksonville Rotary Club has honored for her community service activities by naming her a Paul Harris Fellow. Million’s volunteer activities include the Jacksonville Symphony Society Board, The Playhouse on the Square, Relay for Life, Jacksonville Promise, Jacksonville Commission on Disabilities and Human Relations, and the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.

Dr. Chris McDonald, professor of political science, will be speaking this Saturday, Sept. 10, during a celebration at the Illinois State Military Museum for the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Border Campaign. His presentation on the historic expedition is at 1 p.m.
Former LLCC Softball Coach passes away
Jim Davis, former LLCC softball coach of 21 years, passed away on Sept. 5, 2016 at the age of 89. A visitation will be at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Friday. The funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service at the Pleasant Plains Cemetery. View the obituary.
Constitution Day presentation Sept. 16
LLCC’s Social Sciences department will host a Constitution Day presentation entitled “Promises and Powers: When campaign promises meet the Constitution” on Friday, Sept. 16 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Trutter Center.
Speakers are Professors of Political Science Chris McDonald, Ph.D., and John Vinzant, Ph.D. A discussion period will follow the presentation.

The Honors Program Student Organization is also selling Krispy Kreme donuts in the A. Lincoln Commons TODAY from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Original glazed donuts are available, and the cost is $8 per dozen. Proceeds from this monthly fundraiser will help the Honors Program students pay for their annual Fall Leadership Retreat and Chicago Museums Day Trip. Please consider purchasing a dozen (or two!).

The SGA invite you to wear jeans on Thursday, Sept. 8 in exchange for a $5 donation to the LLCC Food Pantry that is underway. Donations can be taken to the Student Life Office.
Seeking presenters for Professional Development Day
LLCC’s Fall Professional Development Day will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. It is a great opportunity to share ideas, support your colleagues, learn something new or expand upon skills and talents you already have. There will be activities and breakout sessions planned throughout the day with something for everyone.
The Professional Development Day work group is currently seeking proposals for presentations addressing a variety of topics, so please consider presenting a breakout session for your colleagues on that day. Sessions will be provided that focus on increased productivity, enhanced skills, innovative techniques in and out of the classroom, among other areas of development. We will also be focusing on professional development impacting two specific goals – engaging students inside and outside of the classroom and working with diverse populations inside and outside of the classroom.
We know that faculty and staff have an abundance of knowledge and experience that may be beneficial to your colleagues, and we would love if you would share that with us! If you or a team of individuals would like to present a session on Professional Development Day, please fill out the Call for Proposals form. All submissions must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19. The committee is excited to provide an opportunity for you to share your best practices, innovative techniques and knowledge/experience!

50 Acts of Service Update
As one of the acts of kindness to celebrate LLCC’s 50th anniversary, LLCC-Taylorville disbursed “Because You Matter Bags” containing treats and a pencil to our students during welcome week, Aug. 22-25.

LLCC Trutter Museum to open “Trutter: Black and White” exhibit Sept. 30
The Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum at LLCC is celebrating the opening of a new exhibit, “Trutter: Black and White,” on Friday, Sept. 30. The opening reception is being held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Trutter Center on the Springfield campus. The public is invited.
“Trutter: Black and White” is the seventh exhibit in the museum and is being sponsored by Frye-Williamson Press, Inc. This exhibit will feature photographs of Springfield landmarks designed by Philip Trutter and his associates during his career as an architect, as well as black and white artifacts collected by the Trutters during their worldwide travels.
