The Association of Illinois Electrical Cooperatives recently shared a story on their website and social media recognizing the current Electrical Lineman Distribution students at LLCC for their quick action to help revive an elderly man who’d lost consciousness in a restaurant during their lunch break. LLCC-Jacksonville is sponsoring a voting registration opportunity at LLCC-J until Sept. 23,  for all Morgan County residents 18 years of age or older interested in voting in the November 8 election.
Also, students and staff at LLCC-Beardstown created a memorial display to honor the victims of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks.

SURS on campus this fall!

SURS will offer one-on-one retirement counseling appointments on campus this fall.  If you are within 4 years of retirement eligibility and have not met with SURS in the past 12 months, you can contact SURS to schedule an appointment for Nov. 16.  Please follow the attached instructions: Scheduling your SURS appointment. Deadline to sign up is Oct. 14.

If you do not qualify for a one-on-one appointment, you will have other opportunities to ask questions this fall.  SURS will be present on campus during the upcoming Benefits Fair (Oct. 11) and the fall Professional Development Day (Nov. 1).  Mark your calendars today!

RECITAL SERIES OPENS SUNDAY WITH JANE HARTMAN TRIO

LLCC’s annual Recital Series kicks off this Sunday, Sept. 25, with a performance by the Jane Hartman Trio with Dewaine Ellis. The recital begins at 4 p.m. in the Trutter Center on the LLCC Springfield campus.

The Jane Hartman Trio consists of Jane Hartman, LLCC professor of music, on piano; Gene Haas on bass; and Brian Justison on drums. The Jane Hartman Trio is a multiple winner of Illinois Times’ “Best Jazz Combo” category, has performed tours in Japan and England, and regularly performs at Springfield’s Lime Street Café and other venues.

Inspirational speaker Inky Johnson rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 29

Please join us and encourage students to come hear inspirational speaker Inky Johnson on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. in Cass Gym. Light refreshments will be served. This former college football player for the Tennessee Volunteers, dealt a life-changing injury, is now changing the lives of others with his inspiring message to inky-johnsonembrace our challenges illustrated through his own dramatic story. Anyone can experience a life changing moment, but it is about how they persevere that determines their future! This will be an amazing opportunity for our students to be reminded that they can also persevere any challenges they may face.

Accessibility Services has developed a “packaged” guide to disability and disability-related resources that we would love to introduce to all faculty and staff. Included in this SoftChalk Create guide is information to assist you in teaching students with disabilities, planning lessons, developing work spaces that meet accessibility guidelines, as well as reinforcing the Universal Design for Learning principle that “what is good for one, is good for all.” Please join us as we walk through this guide and ask that you provide valuable feedback for updates and improvements.

CONSTITUTION DAY PRESENTATION TODAY

2016 Promises and powersLLCC’s Social Sciences department will host a Constitution Day presentation entitled “Promises and Powers: When campaign promises meet the Constitution” today from noon to 1 p.m. in the Trutter Center.

Speakers are Professors of Political Science Chris McDonald, Ph.D., and John Vinzant, Ph.D. A discussion period will follow the presentation.
