Three first place ribbons awarded to OMOT entries!

Painting of sunflowerA panel of judges from the Springfield Area Arts Council completed their review on Friday of LLCC’s “On My Own Time” art exhibit. Three first place ribbons were awarded! Several other ribbons were also awarded.

All are invited to view LLCC’s “On My Own Time” exhibit which runs through Thursday, Oct. 28. The exhibit is at the main level of Sangamon Hall in the display niche in the hallway across from the library entrance. The exhibit features 13 pieces of artwork from LLCC faculty and staff.

Don’t forget to vote for the LLCC’s People’s Choice Award! The artist of the favorite piece at LLCC will receive a $100 Visa gift card courtesy of the Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum.

All pieces awarded 1st place will move on to the OMOT city-wide exhibit at the Springfield Art Association (SAA) Nelson Gallery, 700 North Fourth Street, Nov. 3-20. The citywide awards, as well as the citywide best of show award, will be announced at a reception at the SAA on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

COVID-19 vaccination clinics on campus Oct. 18 and 19

LLCC will be hosting another COVID-19 vaccination clinic on the main campus in A. Lincoln Commons on Monday, Oct. 18 and Tuesday, Oct. 19.  The clinic on 10/18 will be from 8:30 a.m. – noon and 4 – 6:30 p.m.  On 10/19, the clinic will operate from 8:30 a.m. – noon.  Please check your LLCC email from Vice President Bryan Gleckler Wednesday, Oct. 13 at approximately 8:40 a.m. for more information.

Welcome Jeff Martin

Jeff MartinJeff Martin joined the college as the workforce recruitment and placement coordinator on Sept. 28. He is an LLCC alum and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Western Illinois University. Jeff has worked in post secondary education for eight years, most recently as the senior high school admission advisor for Midwest Technical Institute. Deer hunting near campus

The City of Springfield’s City Water, Light and Power (CWLP), with assistance from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), will begin (starting Oct. 1) allowing archery deer hunting on specific properties around Lake Springfield this year to lower the overpopulated white-tailed deer herd. These areas include CWLP property that borders the main campus (view map).

Tomorrow is the “On My Own Time” entry forms/fees deadline

Faculty and staff interested in participating in LLCC’s “On My Own Time” (OMOT) exhibit are gently reminded that tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 30, is the deadline to submit your entry forms and fees to one of the LLCC coordinators (Misty or Lindee). Artwork is due to the LLCC coordinators by Wed., Oct. 6.

The city-wide exhibit at the Springfield Art Association (Nov. 3-20) will showcase first place award-winning artwork from all participating businesses, agencies and institutions. At the previous OMOT in 2019, three LLCC employees had four pieces of art move on to the city-wide exhibit!

LLCC Choir concerts Oct. 5 at noon and 7 p.m.

LLCC choir members
The LLCC Choir will be performing Illinois American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Preview Concerts next week on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at noon and 7 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons.

The repertoire focuses on finding hope and healing and taking action in the face of various personal and global crises. Featured works are “How Can I Keep From Singing” (Quaker Tune, arr. Andrew Duncan), “I Dream A World” (poetry by Langston Hughes, music by André J. Thomas), “The Rising” (text by Sara Teasdale, music by Andrea Ramsey), “Here” (Josh Rist) and “Hope for Resolution” (Paul Caldwell/Sean Ivory).

The choir is led by Laurie Lewis-Fritz, assistant professor of music. Joining the choir for the evening performance will be Colleen Hillyer, LLCC flute instructor, and Nikola Dokic, LLCC percussion instructor. Rachel Pinto is the accompanist.

The Illinois chapter of ACDA selected the LLCC Choir to perform at its fall conference in Chicago on Oct. 15-16. The choir was chosen based on concert programs and performance samples from the past two years. In addition to featuring select choral performances, the conference provides professional development and networking opportunities for choral music from elementary through collegiate and adult professional choirs. The ACDA is an organization for choral directors and composers that aims to inspire excellence and nurture lifelong involvement in choral music.
