LLCC’s mascot, Linc, will be introduced Saturday as part of homecoming — during halftime of the women’s basketball game, which begins at 1 p.m. In the meantime, stay tuned to LLCC social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) this week for clues leading up to the big reveal!

LLCC’s mascot to be revealed Saturday; watch for clues on social media

LLCC’s new mascot will debut during halftime of the homecoming women’s basketball game, which begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12.  In the meantime, check LLCC social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) beginning at 9 this morning and throughout the week for clues about what the new mascot looks like and how they became LLCC’s No. 1 fan!

A committee with representatives from LLCC Athletics, Student Life, Student Success, Public Relations & Marketing and Advancement (Alumni) along with a student focus group worked for more than a year to bring a new mascot to the college with the goal of increasing school spirit. Look for the mascot to make appearances around campus and at Outreach Centers at various events and activities in the future!

Presentation on Abraham Lincoln by Dr. Samuel Wheeler at LLCC Feb. 11

Dr. Samuel WheelerLLCC will celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s legacy Friday, Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. with “More Painful Than Pleasant?: Abraham Lincoln and His Father,” a presentation by Dr. Samuel Wheeler.

Dr. Wheeler is an historian specializing in the history of Illinois, the Civil War Era and the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln. An LLCC graduate and the college’s 2019 Honored Alumnus, he earned his Ph.D. in history from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He has worked in the field of public history for more than two decades, including as state historian of Illinois and director of research and collections at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. He currently serves as director of history programs at the Illinois Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission in Springfield.

LLCC will also commemorate Lincoln’s legacy with a variety of educational activities for students at the Springfield campus and LLCC Outreach Centers in Jacksonville, Beardstown, Taylorville and Litchfield.
