A few tickets still available for today’s Ag Club Farmer’s Share Luncheon

A few tickets are still available for the LLCC Agriculture Club’s 5th annual Farmer’s Share Luncheon TODAY from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Trutter Center.  The meal costs $.50, which represents the amount a farmer receives from a $6 lunch. The menu includes pulled pork or chicken breast, cheesy potatoes, green beans and cookies. “The Vagina Monologues” March 31-April 1

LLCC is presenting a production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1. The production is being held in the Trutter Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

This year’s performance features a pre-show called “Cis-iety Interrupted,” with original monologues from LLCC students and faculty and Springfield community members. The pre-show begins at 7 p.m. followed by “The Vagina Monologues” at 8 pm. The production includes adult themes and language.

Tickets are $10 and are available at the door or in the ticket office in Menard Hall. More information on LLCC’s production is available from Dr. Deborah Brothers, professor of English, at 786.4966 or deborah.brothers@llcc.edu.

ISBDC at LLCC observes national SBDC day by training the next generation of local entrepreneurs

Wednesday, March 22 was National Small Business Development Day. The Illinois Small Business Development Center at LLCC welcomed the Sangamon CEO high school class of aspiring entrepreneurs to learn about starting and growing a business from ISBDC Director Kevin Lust and local entrepreneurs Chuck Jackson of I.D. Signs, Kim Leistner Root of Springfieldmoms.org, and Billy Williams of CTI Fiber.

LLCC-Litchfield co-sponsors Live Line event

An electrical safety program titled “Live Line” was held in the Charles M. Long Auditorium at LLCC-Litchfield on Wednesday, March 22. Approximately 115 fourth graders from Litchfield and Mt. Olive elementary schools learned about electrical safety through a live display provided by Ameren.  The event was sponsored by LLCC-Litchfield, University of Illinois Extension, Rural Electric, MJM Electric and Ameren.

Moving Network Folder Items to OneDrive – Open Labs

The college is converting what is now stored on the network drives to OneDrive. If you store documents on a network drive, you will need to be prepared to move those documents into your OneDrive account before the end of the spring semester. Attend this open lab and get one-on-one assistance with moving your network files to OneDrive. These are open lab/walk-in sessions, so pre-registration is not required. The first lab is scheduled TODAY.

Distinguished Service Award nominations due March 31

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes those who provide service beyond the minimum. The award is presented to LLCC employees who demonstrate exemplary leadership, promote a learner-centered environment and promote service to the college community. Nominations should clearly describe what qualities exhibited by the nominee through his/her performance, attitude, behavior and action puts them in the elite class of Distinguished Service Award recipient.  Awards will be announced at the 2017 Employee Recognition and Appreciation Ceremony. Deadline for nominations is Friday, March 31.

Bistro Verde offers Mediterranean menu

Bistro Verde is open with a Mediterranean menu! Open Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Reservations are encouraged and can be made by emailing bistroverde@llcc.edu or calling 62821. The cafe is open through Thursday April 27, but is closed Tuesday, March 28 for Professional Development Day. See the current menu and prices HERE.

Sexual Assault Awareness Day of Action April 4

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Sexual Assault and Violence Education (SAVE) Task Force is hosting their second annual Sexual Assault Awareness Day of Action on April 4. The runway event is being held in A. Lincoln Commons from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., with a showing of The Hunting Ground (available thanks to the LLCC Library!) and a facilitated discussion beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Your help is needed to make this event successful!  If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please sign up here by entering your name in the cell of the role and time slot you would like. For more information on what is expected in each volunteer role, please review the role description tab or contact Nicole Ralph at 62342.  We also encourage faculty and staff to stop by the event and strongly encourage students to attend.

The event will consist of:

  • “Walk the Runway in Her Shoes” runway show, where male participants are challenged to walk down the runway in heels (bring your own or choose from our collection). Judges will award the title of Runway Star to one student and one employee. Each Runway Star will receive a trophy and bragging rights!
  • Educational area showcasing TED Talks andpPublic service announcements about preventing sexual assault. Adult coloring pages and popcorn will also be available.
  • Representatives from the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault will have a table discussing their resources and the event that inspired our runway show, “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.”
  • Cupcake fundraiser to support Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault
