Morning: Departmental professional development activities

11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. L.E.A.G.U.E Kickoff Luncheon Join the LLCC Foundation for their 2017 L.E.A.G.U.E Kickoff Luncheon in the Student Union.

1-3 p.m. Innovation Celebration The Academic Innovation and eLearning department will be hosting the Innovation Celebration in A. Lincoln Commons. The Innovation Celebration is a series of poster sessions highlighting innovative instruction and student learning initiatives at LLCC. This event provides an opportunity to share ideas about teaching experiences, student engagement activities, and other innovative college initiatives in a casual atmosphere with colleagues across campus.

 1:30 p.m.: Ice Cream Social in  A. Lincoln Commons

 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. The New Look of Assessment – A Panel Discussion , Robert H. Stephens Room Wondering about the new assessment process that was announced at Convocation?  Want to know more about the programs participating in the pilot and what they have accomplished so far?  In this session, members from the group piloting the new assessment process will be addressing these and other questions during their panel presentation.  Find out what they have learned so far regarding assessment and their programs through the new process by engaging in a dialogue with current pilot members.

Evening activities for faculty: Instructional Department Meals and Meetings

Arts & Humanities and Math & Science Faculty will have their meal in the student union at Subway. The meal will be available between 5 and 5:45 p.m. Meetings for each department will begin at 6 p.m. ARHM will meet in MN2250 and MTSC will meet in MN2207.

Business and Technology Faculty will have both their meal and meeting at 6 p.m. in WFCC 1156.

 Medical Coding Faculty will have both their meal and meeting at 6 p.m. in Logan Hall 1114.

Social Science Faculty will be holding their evening activities in MN 2209. There will be a potluck beginning at 5 p.m. with the department meeting beginning at 6:00 pm.

 Assessment Workshop for Adjuncts 7-9 p.m. MN2201 This workshop has been designed to assist adjunct faculty in their participation in the assessment process at LLCC. Participants will receive an assessment overview to gain an understanding of assessment as it occurs at LLCC and take part in a working session to complete various assessment activities, as time allows. Participants are asked to bring a syllabus with student learning outcomes, assignment instructions, assignments and/or tests, and data from completed tests and/or assignments that need to be analyzed.

50 Years in the Making: Library Archival Exhibit Celebrating LLCC’s 50th Anniversary

Did you know Lincoln Land Community College once had a yearbook? Or that LLCC was lovingly referred to as Plywood U in its early days? Stop by the LLCC Library (1st floor Sangamon) to learn other interesting tidbits by checking out our exhibit celebrating LLCC’s 50th anniversary from the perspective of our Library Archives. The exhibit will run through the rest of the spring semester and is viewable anytime the library is open.

Additionally, there will be a study carrel next to the exhibit. Here, you can put on the headphones and listen to an oral history project conducted by the 50th Anniversary History Committee, which focuses on LLCC “Firsts”. Interviews include: Dr. Robert Poorman, the first President of the College; Mr. Eldon Greenwood, member of the first Board of Trustees; Professor Arthur Lindsay, member of the first teaching faculty; Mr. William “Bill” Amesfirst student at Lincoln Land; and, Dr. Charlotte Warren, first female President of the College.

 

Bistro Verde reopens Monday!

Bistro Verde reopens on Monday, March 20 at 5 p.m.!  This session of Bistro Verde features a fine dining Mediterranean menu. The cafe will be open Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 -7 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. from March 20-April 27. Reservations are strongly encouraged and can be made by emailing bistroverde@llcc.edu or calling 786-4613.  See the tentative menu here: Bistro Menu A final menu will be available no later than Monday.

Commencement student speaker nominations sought

 The Vice President of Student Services is currently seeking nominations for student speakers for Commencement 2017.  If you would like to nominate a student, instructions along with an application and graduate listing are attached below.  All nominations should be returned to Menard Hall, room 1255, no later than noon on Friday, March 31. Nominees must have completed graduation requirements at the end of the summer 2016, fall semester 2016 or be candidates for graduation at the end of spring semester 2017 or summer term 2017.  All nominated students need to have their speech ready to audition on April 13  in the Menard Hall, Room 2219 between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.   Thank you.

This free community workshop is open to anyone interested in learning more about LGBT issues.  Students, faculty and staff are welcome to join the Phoenix Center for this this training. Our sympathy to Anne Armbruster

Mary L. Thon, 70, of Geneseo, mother of Anne Armbruster, student development professional, passed away Thursday, March 2 at her home.  A funeral mass celebrating her life was held March 7 at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Geneseo with burial at North Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation was at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo and memorials may be made to St. Malachy Catholic Church or the Michael J. LLCC retiree Margaret Oakley passes away

 Margaret Ann Oakley, 81, of Springfield, died  March 13 at St. Joseph’s Home. She retired in 1999 as an academic advisor for LLCC after more than 25 years of service. Visitation is today from 4-7 p.m. at Staab Funeral Home–Springfield. An additional visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., Friday, March 17 at St. Joseph’s Home Chapel. Funeral Service: noon Friday, March 17 at St. Joseph’s Home Chapel with burial at Chatham Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Joseph’s Home in Springfield.

Chamber Music Recital with Brickhouse Brass and Blackwater Strings Sunday, March 19

As part of the Recital Series, Chamber Music Recital with Brickhouse Brass and Blackwater Strings will be held Sunday, March 19 at 4 p.m. in Trutter Center. Brickhouse Brass Quintet was founded by five area band directors who needed an outlet to make their own music. Founding members Vince Camille and Tom
Philbrick are combined with Wil Adams, Jan Arnold and Jason Waddell, associate professor of music at LLCC. They perform an eclectic array of music and will provide a fun-filled, toe-tapping afternoon. Blackwater Strings will join in for this special chamber music performance.
