Blood drive Nov. 14

More than 4.5 million people in the U.S. need blood transfusions each year and 1 pint of whole blood saves 3 or more lives.

ImpactLife will be on the LLCC main campus to make donating blood convenient! Please consider donating on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments are required and registration for the blood drive is available online.

As an additional incentive to participate, donors will receive:

  • $10 gift card option or 500 bonus points for whole blood donations
  • $25 gift card option or 1500 bonus points for double red donations

United Way campaign begins Monday; message from Dr. Warren

LLCC will officially launch its annual United Way campaign Monday, Oct. 23, although the online giving form is open now. Please consider a gift to United Way of Central Illinois.

United Way works to address the basic needs, education, financial stability and health of every person in our community. Your gift will be spread among local social service agencies, or you can designate your gift to one or more favorite charities.

LLCC supports United Way and makes payroll deduction available to employees. You may also make an outright gift via credit card or check.

“Fear 101” haunted house open today 6:30-11 p.m.

Grim reaper graphic. Lincoln Land Community College Fear 101. It's the last exam you'll ever take.“Fear 101” opens today, Oct. 13! The public is invited to attend on Fridays, Oct. 20 and 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28 from 6:30-11 p.m.

The evening haunted house is recommended for ages 13 and up. A special “lights on” version for those younger and less adventurous will be held on Oct. 28 from 4-6 p.m.

Fear 101 is sponsored by the LLCC Police Department. Students from construction and art classes assisted in building and decorating the haunted house, which is located in the lower level of Sangamon Hall South.

Admission is $5 and $2 for LLCC students.

Today is the National Day on Writing

Join the LLCC Writing Center this week in recognizing the National Day on Writing, Oct. 20. You are welcome to “write for self” by contributing a poem, short narrative, word cloud, song lyrics or free writing that shares something about who YOU are — your personality, passions, academic and career pursuits, etc. All students who participate will be entered into a drawing at week’s end for a $40 gas card.

Drop by the Writing Center and post your contribution on a project board or email it to writingcenter@llcc.edu. And be sure to visit to sample “write” food in recognition of authors’ favorite snacks and sweets and/or use art supplies to design a poster that expresses self.

Lincoln Commons to drop a note in the Gratitude Jar or pick up a thank you card for someone who has made a difference in their life!

Around the World Gourmet Dinner Kit Pickup Event, Friday, Nov. 3

Around the World LLCC Foundation Dinner Kit Pickup. Hosted by LLCC Hospitality Management & Culinary Arts Program. Lincoln Land Community College Foundation.The LLCC Foundation in partnership with LLCC’s Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts program is offering a five-course gourmet dinner kit pickup on Friday, Nov.3. The menu features dishes prepared by culinary students which can be finished and served with a little preparation at home.

Kaelyn BormidaKaelyn Bormida joined LLCC Oct. 9 as employee benefits and retention coordinator. She previously worked in the HR department at Catholic Charities and as a disabilities claim adjudicator for the state of Illinois. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in business administration, specializing in human resources management, and has SHRM certification.
