LLCC Radiography students win awards at state conference

Morgan Bucher and Kelly AdamskiThe second year LLCC Radiography students attended the 83rd Annual Illinois State Society of Radiologic Technologists Conference in Peoria last week. The conference provides a great deal of education, networking and friendly competition for the students!

As a requirement of attending the conference, each student submits an electronic poster and/or research paper on a topic of choice. Of the 28 electronic posters submitted, Morgan Bucher was awarded second place with her poster on Agenesis of Corpus Callosum and Kelly Adamski was awarded an honorable Scholar Bowl Team – Lauren Cachera, Katie Holliday, Margie Christian and Lauren Burnsmention with her poster on Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP). Four of the students competed in the Scholar Bowl with 11 other teams and made it to the final round with a fourth place finish! The students on the Scholar Bowl team were Lauren Burns, Lauren Cachera, Margie Christian and Katie Holliday.

The students who also represented our program at the conference were Carly Abbott, Bailey Evans, Kelly Hillyer and Darby White. All are members of the LLCC Student Radiographers Association.

Walk a Mile Runway Show, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Week of Action, the Walk a Mile Runway Show will be held today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. Get involved as pledges are taken, challenge stereotypes that perpetuate sexual violence, and learn more about the topic. This event features both an educational area and a runway show that challenges all students (regardless of gender identity) to put on some heels and walk the runway! Cupcakes made by Lindee Hall will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault.

Farmer’s Share Lunch tomorrow

The LLCC Agriculture Club is hosting its Seventh Annual Farmer’s Share Lunch tomorrow, April 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Trutter Center. The club is selling tickets for the meal that will include a boneless pork chop sandwich, roasted corn, potato salad, fruit, cookies, and tea or lemonade for $1. The cost represents the portion of a meal’s cost that actually goes back to the farmers who grew the food. The rest of the cost is for processing, marketing, transportation, etc. Only 125 tickets are available, and they may be purchased from any LLCC Ag Club member or by contacting club advisor Bill Harmon at 786-2573 or bill.harmon@llcc.edu.

During the event, guests will also be able to test their agriculture knowledge with trivia questions from LLCC’s state champion College Bowl Team. The event is open to anyone in the campus community as an educational activity for the club.

K-9 demonstration Friday

A criminal justice class will have a guest speaker on Friday, April 27, who will be putting on a K-9 demonstration outside in the grassy area in front of Menard Hall at approximately 12:30 p.m. LLCC community members are welcome to watch the demonstration.

Open interviews for fall 2018 peer tutors May 1 and 2

Now hiring peer tutors for fall 2018 - open interviews, no appointment needed. Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the LLCC Center for Academic Success in the lower level of Sangamon Hall (under the library). Qualifications: 3.0 or higher GPA, enrolled in six hours, successfully completed 12 hours college credit. For more information, contact Jamie McCoy at 786-2845.Open interviews for fall 2018 peer tutors will be held Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the LLCC Center for Academic Success. Please refer qualified students (3.0 or higher GPA, 12+ college credits earned, plan to enroll in six hours for fall, great personality) to attend these open interview sessions. Tutors are needed for all subjects, but there is a great need for tutors in ACC, MAT (but especially 141), Logic, Physics, Chemistry (101+), Culinary,  CAS 121 and other computer applications, ECO 131 & 132.

Free cybersecurity seminar May 1

LLCC is offering a cybersecurity seminar, “Is Your Wireless Safe?”, on Tuesday, May 1 at 6 p.m. in Logan Hall, Room 1140. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will learn how to protect their home wireless systems. Also, they’ll learn about safety when out using public Wi-Fi at their favorite coffee shops. Register for this event.
