Please remind students of FAFSA filing date Oct. 1

Oct. 1, 2018 is the first day to file the 2019-2020 FAFSA. Please remind students it is important to apply early. Some grants are distributed to early filers only.

The 2019-2020 FAFSA is used for summer 2019, fall 2019 and spring 2020 semesters at LLCC. Students will use tax information from 2017 (filed in 2018) to complete the FAFSA.

The 2019-2020 FAFSA is available at FAFSA Application. New this year: The website is now mobile friendly, and there is a FAFSA app available called “myStudentAid” for easy filing on a handheld device.

LLCC’s Bistro Verde was featured on Wednesday’s “The Dish with Dee Dee,” a segment on Fox Illinois News at 9. It includes an interview with Nancy Sweet, director of culinary programs and operations.

Tony Rothering, professor of biology, presented “Adventures in Bird Banding” at the Sept. 20 meeting for Springfield Audubon. He spoke on the LLCC Bird Banding Station and other banding projects. Also, on Sept. 22 he did a bird banding demo at Bremer Wildlife Sanctuary in Hillsboro, covered by the Journal News in this article.

“All Lit Up” Arts and Humanities Festival

"All Lit Up" bulbLLCC’s “All Lit Up” Arts and Humanities Festival wraps up today with an open mic from 11 a.m. to noon in the James S. Murray Gallery. The event will be facilitated by Professor David Leitner and includes volunteer readers.

With the theme of “Arts bringing light into the darkness,” the festival featured a number of events from Sept. 24-28 in conjunction with Banned Books Week, a national observance celebrating the freedom to read. All events are free and open to the public. LLCC students, staff, faculty and administrators are invited and encouraged to participate or attend. Read more about the week’s events.

Today’s grand opening week special at Quiznos

QuiznosQuiznos has been holding a series of specials this week in honor of its grand opening. Today, Sept. 28, customers receive a free regular fountain drink with any sub or salad purchase.

In addition, all members of Quiznos’ loyalty app Toasty Points will receive double points on purchases all week (Sept. 24-29). Quiznos is located on the lower level in Menard Hall next to the bookstore and open Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

College. Are you Ready? Campus Visit Day. Monday, Oct. 8, 2018

Campus Visit Day is a special campus preview event designed for individuals interested in starting or finishing a college degree or certificate. The event includes informational presentations on how to get started with the enrollment process, how to pay for college and other information relevant to becoming a successful college student. Also, visitors can view exhibits and speak with LLCC representatives from various academic programs and student services. Tours are offered of Menard and Sangamon halls and the Workforce Careers Center. Refreshments are provided, including treats by LLCC Culinary Arts.

LLCC-Taylorville welding lab open house

LLCC-Taylorville hosted an open house yesterday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. to showcase its newly updated and renovated welding lab. The project consists of new welding lab equipment, new flooring and welding curtains, and energy efficient ventilation and lighting systems. The new welding equipment includes 12 machines that will
each perform MIG (metal inert gas), TIG (tungsten inert gas)
and stick (shielded metal arc) welding. Thanks to donors, the new lab significantly enhances the experience of LLCC’s welding students in Taylorville and surrounding communities.

They will be accepted through Tuesday, Oct. 2. Nominate a deserving colleague by filling out the online submission form. Please use the Chrome or Firefox browser when completing this form. The KUDOS awards will be announced Monday, Oct. 15.

The KUDOS awards are an informal way to recognize the special contributions — small and large — made by faculty and staff that create the positive environment that is LLCC. Brighten someone’s day. Say, “Thank you! Great job!” by nominating that person for a KUDOS award!
