Open interviews for peer tutors today

Peer tutor open interviews will be held today, Nov. 20, from 9 a.m.-noon and 2-5 p.m. in the LLCC Center for Academic Success.

Please remind your talented, responsible, and qualified students (enrolled in at least six hours for spring 2019, 3.0 GPA, 12+ hours completed) that open interviews for peer tutors are today! There is no appointment needed!

Abe’s Roundball Classic begins today in Cass Gym

Abe’s Roundball Classic boys basketball tournament takes place Tuesday, Nov. 20, Wednesday, Nov. 21, Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24 in LLCC’s Cass Gym. The event will feature eight boys basketball teams from across the state, including District 186’s own Lanphier Lions. Green Family Stores is sponsoring the tournament. Tickets are $5 per person with free parking and concessions available. View schedule.

LLCC Volleyball finishes eighth at nationals

LLCC Volleyball continued play in the NJCAA Division II tournament this past weekend, placing eighth! Ninth-seed Northeast defeated LLCC 25-21, 15-25, 17-25, 20-25. The final record for LLCC was 29-14.

Kiley BrunsteinKiley Brunstein was named to the All-National Tournament Team, finishing the four matches with 60 kills total.

Abe’s Roundball Classic begins tomorrow in Cass Gym

basketballAbe’s Roundball Classic boys basketball tournament is set for Tuesday, Nov. 20, Wednesday, Nov. 21, Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24 in LLCC’s Cass Gym. The event will feature eight boys basketball teams from across the state, including District 186’s own Lanphier Lions. Green Family Stores is sponsoring the tournament.

The tournament is an opportunity for local student athletes to compete against teams they would not see in their regular season, and gives Springfield a chance to watch nationally-ranked recruits and student athletes who have been invited to Olympic trials. Chicago Orr is the defending 2A state champion and ranked preseason number one, and North Chicago was 4th in the 3A state championship last year.

Tickets are $5 per person with free parking and concessions available.

LLCC’s announcement of the new GIS-based Sustain Springfield Green Map was featured the Illinois Times article, “Lincoln Land puts GIS to work on Green Map,” which included quotes from Dean Butzow, professor of geography, and Rey de Castro, geography instructor. LLCC Ag Club team and individual award winners from the state PAS conference were recently listed in the Illinois edition of Morning Ag Clips. LLCC’s college bowl team won first place for the third consecutive year, crops and soil specialist teams placed second, and dairy and sheep specialist teams placed third. Individual awards were given to Eston Coe for first place in the ag sales and the employment interview contests; Nathan Goebel for second place, employment interview; Lori Jackson for second place, employment interview; and Allison Benner for third place, employment interview.

Paycheck distribution today in HR

Due to yesterday’s weather closing, distribution of paychecks was postponed to today. Paychecks will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the Human Resources office. Checks not picked up by 3 p.m. will be mailed.

LLCC volleyball at nationals

LLCC volleyball won the first round match in nationals yesterday. The team advanced to the Elite Eight for the fourth straight time, defeating Lake Sumter State in straight sets. The Loggers lost the second round to Johnson County, but will play again today at 1:30 p.m. CST against Grand Rapids. Go Loggers!

LLCC Big Band and Choir perform Sunday

November and December performances by faculty and students in LLCC’s music program kick off Sunday, Nov. 18 with the LLCC Big Band performing “There’s Something Goin’ on in Bethlehem.” The performance begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Festival of Trees in the Orr Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds. A performance by the LLCC Choir follows at 1 p.m.
