Open interviews for peer tutor positions

Please let any qualified student (3.0 GPA, 12 credit hours earned, enrolled in 6 hours) know about the open interviews for peer tutors taking place this coming Wednesday and Thursday, April 24 and 25, in the LLCC Center for Academic Success from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students interested in working as a peer tutor do not need an appointment during these two open interview days. LLCC Dance Club to host talent show April 25

Express your Seoul: LLCC Dance Club invites the public to attend the first Express Your Talent Show on Thursday, April 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the student union, located in the lower level of Menard Hall. The event is free to attend, and the Dance Club will be performing new routines at the opening of the talent show and during intermission. T-shirts will be available for purchase for $3. They are first come, first served since there is a limited quantity.

There is no cost for students to enter the talent show. For non-students, there is an entry fee of $5 (which includes a T-shirt). Those interested in participating are encouraged to reach out to Natalie at 217-691-4988 to reserve a spot. There will be four categories: vocal, dance, poetry/reading and instrumental.

Chemistry Club trivia night April 26

Sign up for a trivia night hosted by the LLCC Chemistry Club! It will take place on Friday, April 26 in the student union located in the lower level of Menard Hall. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the event starts at 6 p.m. To register your seat, email Victoria Hollinshead at vholl2249@llcc.edu.

It is $10 per person, and payment will be collected the night of the event. Cash or check will be accepted. Checks should be made out to LLCC.

Thanks to those who assisted with Student Professional Development Day

LLCC students received a wealth of excellent career and social skills information as well as advice yesterday at Student Professional Development Day. LLCC Alumni Association and Student Government Association collaborated to provide panels and roundtable discussions, full of LLCC experts and alumni to present on important topics to aid new and returning students in preparing for the workforce. A big thank you to all of our professionals that presented and attended: Dr. Charlotte Warren, Dr. Lesley Frederick, Kevin Lust, Junell Ransdell, Thomas Spears, Anne Armbruster, Cathy Huffman, Jennifer Lewis, Holly Bauman and Jacob Deters.

The April 12 community service project that LLCC education students in the Diversity of Schools and Society class taught by Dr. Taiebeh Hosseinali, professor of education, was featured on the front page of The Journal-News. The project included planting flowers and reading books about gardens at the Hillsboro Community Child Development Center.

Tony Rothering, professor of biology and coordinator of the LLCC bird banding station, spoke on that topic at a meeting of the Elkhart Historical Society April 12. A story about his presentation appeared in the New Herald News.

Police K-9 demonstration Monday

Lincoln Land Community College Criminal Justice ProgramTara Walk, associate professor of criminal justice, has scheduled a police K-9 demonstration Monday, April 22 from noon to 12:50 p.m. on the front lawn of Menard Hall. Employees and classes are welcome to view the demonstration. Please note that the demonstration will be cancelled if the officers conducting the demonstration are called to emergency situations.
