Mack Alexander is a new building custodian for the college. He formerly worked as a building superintendent for Futures in Rehab Management and in housekeeping for St. John’s. Mack can be reached at mack.alexander@llcc.edu.
Brady Edwards has recently joined LLCC as a building custodian. He most recently worked seven years as a custodian for the North Mac School District. Brady can be reached at brady.edwards@llcc.edu.
Jermain Jefferson also joined the college as a building custodian. He owns and operates a detail shop in Springfield and previously worked as a line cook at Red Robin for six years. Jermain can be reached at jermain.jefferson@llcc.edu.
The LLCC Environmental Club’s annual tomato sale is underway. There are 10 varieties this year, some old favorites and some new options. Plants were started in March and are thriving in the LLCC Biology Greenhouse. They will be available for pick up May 9 and 10. All plants are $1 each. Orders will be filled in the order they are received. Please email your completed order forms to Becky Croteau (becky.croteau@llcc.edu) or drop them by Sangamon 2325 in person. Make sure you fill out both sides of the form.
The 2019 LLCC Juried Student Art Show winners were announced at a reception on April 25. Sixty-three art students submitted a total of 148 entries for consideration, representing 14 of LLCC’s studio classes.
Corrin Smithson McWhirter, artist and gallery director for the Springfield Art Association, served as juror for the show. She selected 82 art entries out of the 148, as well as the winners in the studio art categories.
The student art exhibit is open for viewing through May 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays in the James S. Murray Gallery.

Alexis Wernsing Pinnacle Award
Charissa Fox – The Pinnacle Award was created in 2016 to honor the memory of LLCC alumna Alexis Wernsing, who graduated from LLCC in 2011. The Pinnacle Award, chosen by the LLCC full-time art faculty, goes to the student who strives for the best in all their academic endeavors without complaint and no matter what the context.
The LLCC Big Band will perform a spring concert on Monday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. The event is free and open to the public. The band, under the direction of Manley Mallard, LLCC adjunct instructor of music, will perform favorites, such as “Come Rain or Come Shine,” “Over the Rainbow” and “Singin’ in the Rain.” Featured student performers are Emma Bachman, vocalist; Tanner Stephens, trombone and vocalist; Madison Leek and Aaron Burkholder, trumpet; and Jeff Milner, percussion.
The deadline to submit your deposits to LLCC Finance is today, April 29, before noon. Please hand the deposit to Nichole Coffey or Sarah Goodman as monies should not be left unattended.

In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM), the LLCC SAVE Taskforce and Compliance and Prevention office are hosting the annual red carpet runway show on Tuesday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. ALL individuals are encouraged to take a pledge to turn their awareness into action and then “walk the walk” down the runway. Heels are available for participants to use and are provided by the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault. The LLCC Student Honors Recital will be held Wednesday, May 1, at 7 p.m. in Menard Hall, Room 2250. The public is invited at no charge. The recital will feature vocalists and selections on clarinet, piano, trumpet, classical guitar, drum set, timpani and xylophone. The featured performers are taught by LLCC music faculty and instructors Jason Waddell, bass guitar, trumpet and percussion; Laurie Lewis-Fritz, piano and voice; Melinda Kaye, voice; See Tsai Chan, piano; Manley Mallard, guitar; and Greg Cohill, clarinet.
