Open forum today with candidate for dean, English and humanities
An open forum will be held today, 2-2:45 p.m. in Menard Hall, Room 2207, with the first of three candidates for the dean of English and humanities position. Please attend if possible.

Our sympathy to Brenda Protz and Thom Whalen
We offer our heartfelt sympathy to Brenda Protz, professor of communication, on the tragic loss of her daughter, her daughter’s best friend and grandparents in a traffic accident Saturday evening in Montgomery County.
We also extend our sincere condolences to Thom Whalen, professor of art, on the passing of his father, Patrick “Patty” Whalen, on Nov. 15. Visitation, beginning with a prayer service, will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20, 4-7 p.m. at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, 10 a.m. at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, and interment will follow. Read the obituary.
Reminder from LLCC Purchasing
As a reminder, the purchase of all goods should be done through the Colleague requisitioning system. Per Board Policy 6.17, college credit cards may be used only for purchases that are consistent with the college’s purchasing policies and procedures. In particular, credit cards may not be used to circumvent college purchasing procedures and may not be used for personal expenditures. The intent of the college credit card is for reserving college related travel accommodations and small emergency purchases (under $500 and should not be used for capital expenditures). Individual card-holders assume all responsibilities and charges for inappropriate use of the college credit card. Abuse of the college credit card will result in the cancellation of such card. Blackboard offline for maintenance Nov. 25, 11 p.m.
Blackboard has notified LLCC that the college system will be offline for maintenance on Monday, Nov. 25 at 11 p.m. This work typically takes an hour. If time extends beyond that, an update will be sent.
Italy trip informational meeting today, 6 p.m.
The LLCC Culinary and Hospitality Center of Excellence is planning a two-week trip to Italy May 24-June 7, 2020, which is open to students and the community. An informational meeting on the trip will be held today, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. in Bistro Verde.
The trip, in conjunction with Centro Studi Italiani in Urbania, Italy, will travel to three areas: the Marche region, nestled between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea; the food valley area of Modena and Parma, located in the Emilia-Romagna region and known for prosciutto, balsamic vinegar and Parmesan cheese; and finally, the city of Milan in northern Italy.
While there, various classes will be held in Italian language, culture and culinary heritage and tradition of Italy. This cultural tour will also include meeting with culinary experts, local wine and food producers, restaurant owners and culinary entrepreneurs. Excursions to destinations with high artistic and architectural interest as well as the natural beauty around Italy will provide a well-rounded perspective of Italian life and culture.

Opportunity to join music groups
Faculty, staff and community members can also join the college’s band and choral groups for the spring 2020 semester through LLCC Community Education.
LLCC Choir
Community Education offers a class is for community members that are not otherwise credit-seeking students at the college and wish to join the LLCC Choir. The class will meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 12-12:50 p.m. in Menard 2250 beginning Jan. 13. Students will sing a wide variety of music and have performance opportunities. The class fee is $10. Register by going online via WebAdvisor or calling LLCC Registration at 786-2292, and use course code CEW-102-04.

GSA to host Intersex Awareness Nov. 22
The LLCC Gay-Straight Alliance will be hosting Intersex Awareness on Friday, Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Robert H. Stephens Room. Intersex is one of the least known biological sexes. Its population is as numerous as those with red hair or green eyes. GSA wants to bring awareness to an important identity and show support to our fellow LGBTQ+ community members.
LLCC hosted College Prep Summit
LLCC hosted 82 students from five high schools at the College Prep Summit Nov. 15. At the event, students took part in a college expo, campus tours, mock lectures and a student panel discussion, and also heard from keynote speaker, Shatoya Black, coordinator, TRIO/Student Support Services at Illinois State University.
