CCSSE Update

LLCC is participating in the online Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) administration this spring. CCSSE is a national survey focused on teaching, learning, and retention in community colleges. To learn more about CCSSE visit www.ccsse.org.

We launched the survey on March 2, and 716 students have responded thus far. We are still far short of our goal — 2000 completions. Please encourage students to share their perspective.

Kylana Moore awarded Stand Together Scholarship from LLCC Foundation

Kylana MooreKylana Moore of Springfield was recently awarded the newly established Stand Together Scholarship from the LLCC Foundation.

This two-year, $8,000 scholarship was created by Tara McClellan McAndrew, Amy Tarr and Julie Krehbiel with additional funding from friends, family and others, and endowed by Mary Mitchell Beaumont. The scholarship was inspired by the belief that we are all better when we stand together and founded to help support access and equity.

Moore will be a first-generation college student studying business at LLCC. She graduated with a 3.96 GPA from Lanphier High School, where she served as class president and was a member of the Family and Community Engagement Club, Students Supporting Students Club and SAVE, a community volunteer group.

“Receiving this scholarship will guarantee my college education, which will allow me to achieve many of my dreams and provide me with opportunities I otherwise would not have,” says Moore. “This scholarship is the answer to the important question, ‘How will I afford an incredible college education?’”

The Stand Together Scholarship is awarded to a full-time LLCC student who is taking 12 or more credit hours per semester. It is required that the awardee also be a first-time freshman with financial need and have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Students only need to complete one application to be considered for all eligible LLCC Foundation scholarships. The scholarship application for the 2022-23 academic year will be available Dec. 1, 2021-March 1, 2022 at llccfoundation.org/scholarships.

LLCC named a top college with affordable online degrees

LLCC has been named a top college in the United States with affordable online degrees by Best Value Schools in its recently published “Best Affordable Online Degrees in 2021.” Among two-year colleges, LLCC was ranked No. 29 nationally and top in Illinois.

An announcement of the rankings states, “The benefits of earning a degree are many and have become much more valuable over the past few years … the flexibility of an online degree allows students to continue meeting other personal obligations while earning their degree. They can arrange their schedule so that it works for them.”

“We were among the pioneers in online education. Now we offer hundreds of general education transfer courses online, as well as many career-focused courses,” says Becky Parton, dean of academic innovation and eLearning at LLCC. “Our faculty receive intensive training in online teaching, and with a low student to faculty ratio, our online students receive personal attention in their classes.”

For 24 years, LLCC has provided affordable, high-quality courses online and maintains the highest level of accreditation for online teaching from the Higher Learning Commission.

Registration for summer classes at LLCC is now underway, and fall registration begins April 15. More information on online courses is available at www.llcc.edu/online.
