Please read below to learn about some upcoming new and updated features in Canvas and for information on upcoming Canvas Open Labs.

Canvas Release Notes (11-11-21)

Instructure periodically releases information on new and updated features for the Canvas Learning Management System. This Canvas communication is to make you aware of some notable new and/or updated Canvas features that were planned for November 11, 2021 that may be of interest to instructors. Updated Features

  1. Assignments – Submission Feedback Indicator – Instructors & Students 

    • In the Assignment Details page, the Show Rubric and View Feedback links indicate when new comments have been added as an annotation or in a rubric.
    • This change allows students to see when new comments have been added to a submission
  2. SpeedGrader – Assignment Text Entry Word Count – Instructors 

    • The word count for assignment text submissions is displayed in SpeedGrader.
    • This change allows instructors to display the word count in assignment text submissions while grading in SpeedGrader.

Release Previews

  1. New Quizzes – Assignment and Quizzes Build Link – Instructors 
    • New Quizzes in Assignments and Quizzes pages include a link to the quiz Build page.
    • This change allows users to bypass the assignment details page and quickly access the quiz Build page.

  2. New Quizzes – Stimulus Orientation – Instructors 

    • The Stimulus type includes the ability to choose if the related questions appear to the right or below. 
    • This change allows instructors to control the presentation of an item’s stimulus, functionality that is useful when printing quizzes or when adding narrative stimulus content.

Upcoming Canvas Open Labs

We encourage you to attend any or all the Canvas Open Labs listed below to ask the AIeL team your Canvas questions and to get any additional help with Canvas you may need. Registration is not required for open labs. Please note there are options are for meeting both face-to-face and over Zoom.

  • Thursday, November 18, 2021 ∙ 2:30pm – 3:30pm ∙ S0119 and Zoom
  • Tuesday, December 7, 2021 ∙ 2:00pm – 3:00pm ∙ S0119 and Zoom

CAS to host final exam prep seminars for students

The Center for Academic Success will be hosting final exam prep seminars Dec. 6 and 8.

Topics include: developing a study plan; tips on how to study and how to answer objective, short answer and essay exam questions; managing test anxiety.

The seminar is open to all LLCC students. Both in-person and Zoom options are available. For more details and to register, students may visit  www.llcc.edu/cas or call the Center for Academic Success at 217-786-2396. Registration closes on Friday, Dec. 3 at noon.

LLCC honors veterans at annual ceremony

LLCC honored veterans yesterday at the annual Veteran’s Day ceremony. Aaron Duncan played taps and music major Jack John Barham sang the national anthem. Speakers were Ken Elmore, LLCC Board of Trustees chair, and Darian Hayes, LLCC student and Private First Class, U.S. Army Reserve (pictured with Truck Driver Training Director Curt Robinson). Student Trustee Meghan Hadden presented the wreath. LLCC at Central Illinois Building Trades Career Day

LLCC recruitment and WEI staff attended the Central Illinois Building Trades Career Day Wednesday at the Bank of Springfield Center, speaking with high school students about careers in the trades. More than 70 students from Mt. Pulaski, Winchester and Triopia then came to campus and toured our Workforce Careers Center!

PTK hosts “Life Goes On” event Monday

LLCC’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will promote organ donations Monday, Nov. 15 in conjunction with the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office “Life Goes On” program.

Beginning at 10 a.m. in A. Lincoln Commons, individuals may sign up for the Organ/Tissue Donor Registry. A program will begin at 5:30 p.m. featuring speakers Damarius Blanks, regional coordinator of Life Goes On, along with an organ donor family, a living organ donor and organ recipient. Registry sign-up will be available throughout the day until the end of the program, which will also include recognition for established organ donors.

COVID-19 vaccination clinic Monday and Tuesday

LLCC will host another COVID-19 vaccination clinic in A. Lincoln Commons Monday, Nov. 15, 8:30 to noon and 4-6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 16, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available. If you received your first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine held at our last vaccination clinic (Oct. 18 and 19), you can get your second dose to become fully vaccinated. No appointment is necessary to participate in this vaccination clinic; walk-ins are welcome. The Pfizer booster shot is also available.  Please note that this clinic cannot provide the vaccination to children in the 5-11 year age group.

LLCC has extended the COVID-19 vaccination incentive for both employees and students through Nov. 30, 2021.

Sign up to be a blood donor next Wednesday

Did you know that the next LLCC Student Life Blood Drive is on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.? Thinking about signing up but are unsure if you can donate blood? One question the Student Life staff frequently gets from new and returning donors is, “ am I eligible to donate?” If you are reading this and asking yourself the same questions, email kyle.roughan@llcc.edu for an informational flyer.

Sign up for an appointment as they are required. Be sure to share this blood drive with your family, friends and neighbors! Appointments are required.
