Deadline Feb. 10 for applications to fill LLCC Board of Trustees vacancy

Applicants for a vacant seat on the LLCC Board of Trustees have until Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, to submit materials. The current Board will choose the new trustee by March 4, 2022.

Applicants must reside within LLCC Subdistrict 6, which includes all or parts of Morgan, Scott and Cass counties.*

Applications should include reasons for seeking the appointment, how their qualifications will add to the composition of the Board in fulfilling its responsibilities to District citizens, experience which may enhance public policy or decision making, and other information or materials the candidate believes would be useful to the Board in making this appointment.

Vaccination clinic today

As a reminder, LLCC is hosting a vaccination clinic today, Jan. 25, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. Students and employees wishing to get vaccinated can drop in during the vaccination clinic hours and receive a free vaccination (no appointment needed). Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are all available. Students and employees receiving the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine will need to complete the second dose to be considered fully vaccinated. Booster shots are also available. If you are wanting a booster or second dose, please bring your vaccine card. The clinic is being provided by HR Support, contracted in partnership with IEMA through the state of Illinois.

Recent temporary changes, including a limited waiver, to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) may benefit public sector and non-profit employees.  Some of these changes offer benefits available for a limited time, so you don’t want to miss out on this info!

Session description

Did you know that public service employees may be eligible for Federal Student Loan forgiveness? The PSLF program allows Federal Student Loan borrowers to apply for forgiveness if they are employed full time by a government, 501(c)(3) organization, or public-serving nonprofit, and meet other requirements.

If you want to learn more about PSLF or if you have applied for PSLF and been denied, this is the session for you. In this session, we will discuss the existing PSLF program as well as a new Limited Waiver for PSLF that will allow borrowers to receive credit for payments that previously did not qualify for PSLF. The Limited Waiver ends Oct. 31, 2022, don’t miss out!

Workforce Institute to host HVACR information session Feb. 8

The Workforce Institute at LLCC invites those interested in starting a career in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) to an information session on Feb. 8 at 4:30 p.m. The session will be held in Room 1156 of the LLCC Workforce Careers Center, 5250 Shepherd Rd., Springfield.

Attendees will hear from instructors, tour the HVACR lab and learn how to enroll for training. The next HVACR training begins Feb. 21, and there are still spaces available in the evening program.

Prospective students interested in training for a new career are also invited to visit LLCC for Campus Visit Day on Monday, Feb. 21. Spring Campus Visit Day Feb. 21

Visit. Campus Visit Day Monday, Feb. 21Mark your calendars! The spring 2022 Campus Visit Day will be Monday, Feb. 21. There are two sessions, from 10 a.m. to noon and 5-7 p.m., with exhibit areas being open 30 minutes prior and during the last 30 minutes of each session.

Campus Visit Day is a special campus preview event designed for individuals interested in starting or finishing a college degree or certificate. The event includes a welcome presentation, exhibit area where visitors can speak with LLCC representatives from various academic programs and student services, departmental and student success related information sessions and more information relevant to becoming a successful college student. Also, brief tours are offered of areas within Menard and Sangamon halls, Kreher Agriculture Center, Nursing Education Center and Workforce Careers Center. Refreshments are provided by LLCC Culinary Arts.

Don’t forget that LLCC offers Canvas Studio to all faculty and their students! Canvas Studio is a video learning platform integrated directly into the college’s Canvas system. Studio allows you and your students to record, close caption, store and embed videos directly into multiple areas of a course such as assignments, discussions and pages. Studio analytics allows you to easily analyze the media students are viewing, how long they are viewing and when they stopped.  Additionally, Studio has timeline comments features, as well as embedded quizzing functions.
