Review, comment and you may get a Quiznos lunch for free!

What do accreditation, teamwork and Quiznos have in common?
You!

Accreditation is incredibly important, and so is your input! Please make time to read and comment on all or part of the assurance filing between now and Sept. 26 (see files emailed Sept. 6). The individual who submits the best edit/suggestion for the week will be rewarded with a free Quiznos lunch!

What is the assurance filing? It documents how we are meeting identified criteria (and their subcomponents) to reaffirm our accreditation. The criteria:

  1. Mission
  2. Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct
  3. Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources and Support
  4. Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement
  5. Institutional Effectiveness, Resources and Planning

We will be hosting a peer review team on campus Dec. 5 and 6. They will be here to confirm the information in our assurance filing — so it is important that it be complete and accurate. It takes all of us working together to have a successful HLC visit!

Our sympathy to colleagues, friends and family of Dick Dhabalt

Dhabalt also started the baseball, track and tennis teams in spring 1969. He retired in 1993 and was an adjunct faculty member from 1994 to 2010. In his honor, the LLCC Dick Dhabalt Athlete of the Year Award was established in 2015 and is presented to the college’s two top athletes annually. The award acknowledges Dhabalt’s dedication to education, athletics and LLCC students.

Annual Banned Book Celebration Sept. 21

Mark your calendars! In conjunction with the American Library Association’s Banned Book Week, LLCC presents its annual Banned Book Celebration Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 1-2 p.m. just outside A. Lincoln Commons. LLCC has held this event since 2001, and this will be the first one in-person since 2019. Approximately one dozen readers consisting of staff, faculty and faculty-librarians will present excerpts from books that were banned at one time. “This year seems more fraught because so many states have or are attempting to pass laws that put librarians and instructors in danger of jail time for merely sharing links to books that have been challenged or allowing minors to check out books that have been challenged,” says Dr. Deborah Brothers, professor of English.  “Freedom of access and books that feature topics that are sometimes difficult to talk about need to remain available.”
