Sexual Assault Awareness Week of Action April 23-27

The SAVE Taskforce invites the LLCC community to join them for Sexual Assault Awareness Week of Action, April 23-27. The schedule of events include:

Monday, April 23

Pledge Day, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons

Stop by the table in A. Lincoln Commons to take a pledge to embrace your voice and take everyday actions to help prevent sexual violence and support survivors.

Tuesday, April 24

Take a Stand Tuesday, all day, A. Lincoln Commons

Take a Stand Tuesday is an opportunity for your office or you as an individual to stand with the LLCC community in our efforts to increase awareness of sexual assault while informing our community about everyday actions that we can take to prevent sexual violence and support survivors. Symbolic of the LLCC community’s refusal to be passive bystanders of sexual assault, at least one person will be “taking a stand” in A. Lincoln Commons from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. You are invited to choose an available half-hour time frame that works for you or your group and sign up using this link.

Wednesday, April 25

Denim Day, all day, A. Lincoln Commons

In correlation with National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the LLCC Feminist Activist Coalition and SAVE Taskforce will be hosting Denim Day Wednesday, April 25. For this awareness campaign and fundraiser, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate by wearing denim on April 25 and turning in a minimum $5 donation to LLCC Student Life. All proceeds will benefit the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault. The fundraiser also connects with Denim Day 2018, an annual campaign that focuses on protesting destructive attitudes and misconceptions about sexual assault. Learn more about the background of this campaign.

Thursday, April 26

Walk a Mile Runway Show, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons

Get involved as pledges are taken, challenge stereotypes that perpetuate sexual violence, and learn more about the topic. This event features both an educational area and a runway show that challenges all students (regardless of gender identity) to put on some heels and walk the runway! Cupcakes made by Lindee Hall will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault.

Friday, April 27

LLCC March to Join Take Back the Night, 7:15 p.m.

Meet outside of Millennium (near the La Terra sculpture) to join SAVE Taskforce as they march over to the UIS campus and join Take Back the Night March and Rally, which will include LLCC student speakers.
