Date: Saturday, November 5, 2016
Time: 9:30a.m.-noon
Location: Lincoln Land Community College

Volunteer Role Description:

  • The Water Stop Team will meet at the Volunteer Check-In Tent and walk out to the corner of Shepherd Road and West Lake Shore Drive. There are two water stops, with two tables each, directly across the road from each other.
  • As volunteers arrive, begin filling cups. There will be water barrels and pitchers to help fill the cups. Volunteers will need to fill two levels of cups on each table (use Styrofoam boards to separate) to handle the rush of runners that will arrive. Supplies include tables, water barrels, pitchers, cups, Styrofoam boards, trash bags and rakes.
  • As you operate the water stop, some volunteers should continually be filling cups while the majority of people line the road and hand out water.
  • You do not need to fill the cups all the way up – they should be filled about half-way or even less. This is proper race etiquette so that participants will keep running/walking and to ensure there is plenty of water for all participants.
  • Cheer the participants on and have fun!
  • After the final race sweeper and/or SportsCare follow car comes through (indicating no other runners/walkers remain on the course) the team can clean up the area by raking up all used paper cups and putting in garbage bags. Move the water stop tables, trash cans, and supplies off of the side of the road, clearing the area for traffic. The supplies will be picked up by the truck after the race.
  • Be on the lookout for girls – or community runners – who may need assistance. There will be additional First Aid volunteers stationed at the Water Stop.
