“Suit-Up” event Feb. 3

LLCC Advising, Counseling and Career Services has partnered with J.C. Penney to offer a “Suit-Up” event on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 8 a.m. to noon. At this event students, alumni, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to purchase professional clothing, shoes and accessories for 40 percent off. The discount even applies to items already on sale! The idea is for students to be able to purchase career dress apparel at a very affordable price, but  J.C. Penney has graciously agreed to offer this to faculty and staff as well. Along with discounted apparel, there will be prizes and giveaways, mini makeovers at Sephora, and consultations and hair touch ups in the salon! All that is needed to attend the event is an LLCC ID card.

Phi Theta Kappa achieves five star status

LLCC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society recently completed all the requirements for Five Star Chapter Status, the highest level of recognition, for the fifth year in a row. Requirements included completion of two service projects, one to benefit the college and one to benefit the community.

The college project centered around the unveiling of the 1993 Phi Theta Kappa Time Capsule at the Founders’ Day celebration in February 2017.  The capsule was reburied in June 2017 during the Illinois Regional Phi Theta Kappa Convention, which was held at LLCC, and will be opened again in 2042.  The “Honors In Action” community service project centered around increasing awareness of the importance of organ donation. An event was held in November 2017 featuring speakers who had personal experience with organ donation, including a heart transplant recipient and parents of a child who was an organ donor. As a result of this event, several people signed up to be organ donors.

Advisors for LLCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter are Tim Humphrey, dean of Arts and Humanities; Dr. Claire Gordon, professor of communication; and Don Ecklund, faculty emeritus. Links to full reports describing the details of the projects are below and also posted on the Phi Theta Kappa bulletin board, located next to Menard Hall, Room 2220.
