#TalkItOut workshop today

The LLCC Feminist Activist Coalition is hosting a “Talk It Out” workshop and discussion that explores gender bias. The discussion is co-sponsored by the Sexual Assault & Violence Education Task Force and will take place today in the Robert H. Stephens Room, from 1-3 p.m. The featured topic is sexual harassment and how women and men can advocate and educate each other about solutions and healing. Students, faculty and staff are asked to wear black in solidarity with victims of sexual harassment. Lunch will be provided.

Soup & Stories “The Radium Girls: An Illinois Tragedy” today at 11 a.m.

The LLCC Feminist Activist Coalition  is hosting a Soup & Stories today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event features Tara McClellan McAndrew, writer for NPR Illinois, presenting “The Radium Girls: An Illinois Tragedy.” In the early 1900s, women hired by the U.S. Radium Corporation as watch-dial painters later died from radium poisoning. Women who worked in the plant located in Ottawa, Ill., were victims of the radium poisoning. The Soup & Stories event will take place in the large lounge of A. Lincoln Commons. The event is free for students and $3 for faculty and staff.

Paul Simon Essay Contest submission due March 16

The LLCC Writing Center and Student Life are now accepting submissions for the Paul Simon Essay Contest. Students must submit an essay of 500 words or less on the topic of “How My Community College Changed My Life.” Local winners will receive prizes from the LLCC Foundation and the bookstore, and the first place winner will be forwarded to the statewide competition, which is sponsored by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. The deadline for essay submissions is March 16 at 3 p.m. See contest flier for more information.

Phi Theta Kappa selling raffle tickets for parking spot today

Would you like to park right next to Menard Hall for one year?  Phi Theta Kappa is selling raffle tickets for the Phi Theta Kappa parking spot located at the southeast corner of Menard Hall. The winner will be able to park in this reserved spot for one year!

Today, March 7, is the last day to buy your raffle tickets for a chance to win this amazing perk. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. You can pay with cash or check (made out to “LLCC”). We will be located under the banners in A. Lincoln Commons from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

This is the only fundraiser conducted by Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for community college students which promotes scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship among its members. Proceeds will help fund a trip for students to the International Phi Theta Kappa Convention in Kansas City in April. The raffle winner will be announced by the end of the week. Women’s history trivia table and voting for Lady Loggers of the Year

In honor of International Women’s Day, the LLCC Feminist Activist Coalition is sponsoring a trivia table in A. Lincoln Commons today, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by the table to test your knowledge and expertise in women’s historical events and contributions.

Also, students can vote for Lady Loggers of Year yet today at the FAC table. The winners will be announced at the Soup & Stories on March 19, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons.

Nominations for Lady Loggers of the Year Awards

The Feminist Activist Coalition is hosting a table tomorrow, March 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons to invite students to nominate outstanding women on campus. Students will have the opportunity to nominate any LLCC student, faculty or staff for three relevant categories. The winners will be announced at the Soup & Stories on March 19, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons.
