National Hispanic Heritage Month

Kick-Off Event

Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, noon to 3 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons

Each Sept. 15 marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States. Here at LLCC Student Life, we want to kick things off in the best way we know how, with food! Join members of the Student Life staff and the National Hispanic Heritage Month Planning Committee as we offer samples of popular Latin dishes from local restaurants. Learn about our upcoming events for the rest of the month and how you can participate.

Recipe of The Month

Sept. 19-23

Recipe of The Month is a chance to learn how to create a popular dish at home to help celebrate the spirit of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Starting on Monday, Sept. 19, students can pick up a meal kit from LLCC Student Life to make the featured dish in the comfort of their homes. A limited number of kits will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Loteria

Tuesday, Sept. 27, noon to 2 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons

A Spanish word meaning “lottery,” Loteria is a traditional game of chance, similar to bingo, but using images on a deck of cards instead of numbered ping pong balls. Students participating in Loteria will have the opportunity to win some gift cards to local Hispanic restaurants. Let’s test your luck with this timeless game and see if fortune will be on your side!

Closing Fiesta

Friday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons

Reflect with your fellow Loggers as we close out the month of celebrations and look toward the future. Music, fun and memories!

Donate to the LLCC Food Pantry

LLCC Student Life needs your help! At present, the LLCC Food Pantry is bare to the bones and requires the generous support of its faculty and staff to help fill up its shelves again. To help meet the student body’s needs, we are asking faculty and staff to donate to the Food Pantry.

What types of food donations can we accept, you ask? Well, Student Life can accept ready-to-eat meals essentially. Did you know that the Food Pantry also accepts donations of non-food items? We can! All donations should be in their original packaging listing the “use by,” “sell by” or “best if used by” date as this will assist us in ensuring we comply with USDA guidelines.
