Nominate a student for Logger of the Month

Faculty and staff — do you have a student you feel represents the best of our campus community? Maybe the student you have in mind is a student leader, perhaps they are academically strong or maybe they are just someone you have noticed going above and beyond lately. Whatever the case, LLCC Student Life needs your help celebrating and recognizing our amazing students!

Student Life is thrilled to begin a new tradition, Logger of the Month. Logger of the Month is your chance to nominate a student you feel represents our student body. In addition to receiving a $25 voucher to the LLCC Bookstore and a certificate of celebration, Logger of the Month recipients will be recognized for their respective month during the Student Recognition Ceremony in the spring semester.

PTK hosting Community College Smart banner signing

Lincoln Land Community College.Phi Theta Kappa is hosting a Community College Smart (CCSmart) banner signing at Springfield campus and at the Jacksonville, Taylorville, Litchfield Outreach Centers, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Nov. 15, and tomorrow, Nov. 16. Tell us your favorite thing about community college and receive a free CCSmart LLCC window cling! Clings are limited to the first 100 signers in Springfield and the first 25 at each Outreach Center. Find us near the Information Desk in A. Lincoln Commons and inside each Outreach Center. Keep an eye out later in November, when each banner will be on public display in our LLCC communities.

Parade of Food today, 9:45 a.m.

As you can imagine, holidays like Thanksgiving are difficult times as many lack the resources to have a traditional Thanksgiving meal. One initiative back for a second year that has risen to help combat food insecurity faced by LLCC students is called Operation Full Belly: Help for Hungry Students. Operation Full Belly is a joint venture between LLCC Student Life, Child Development Center, Workforce Equity Initiative, Trio, Police Department and Foundation to offer students in need a chance to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.

To make Operation Fully Belly a success, please join faculty, staff and children from the Child Development Center on Monday, Nov. 14, at 9:45 a.m. for the Parade of Food in A. Lincoln Commons

Additionally, the Foundation will be collecting monetary donations through tomorrow, Nov. 15. Funds collected as part of Operation Full Belly will be used to purchase grocery baskets and gift cards for our students who have indicated a need for assistance this Thanksgiving Holiday.

Veterans Day Ceremony today, 12:30 p.m.

United States flagsLLCC is honoring veterans at its 27th annual Veterans Day Ceremony today, Nov. 11. The ceremony begins at 12:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons on the LLCC-Springfield campus, and a reception will follow. The public is invited to attend.

Boy Scout Troop 202 Color Guard will post the colors. The program also includes Ken Elmore, LLCC Board of Trustees Chair, serving as master of ceremonies; Jonathan Gebhardt, LLCC student, president of the LLCC Veterans Club and retired Senior Airman, U.S. Air Force, providing remarks; LLCC student Tanner Stephens singing the national anthem; and LLCC alum Madison Leek playing “Taps.”

The Veterans Day Ceremony is sponsored by LLCC Student Life and Veterans Club and honors all veterans including LLCC faculty, staff and students who served in the armed forces.

Faculty and staff: if you or your department are participating in Operation Full Belly, please have your donation items at A. Lincoln Commons on Monday Nov. 14, at 9:45 a.m. where the LLCC Child Development Center will collect your donations for the food pantry. If you need assistance with getting your donations to the Commons, please contact Crystal Norris, Mion Denton or Marlena Constant and we will help with transporting your donations.
