Starting on June 28, contractors will be working on mechanical systems in the lower level of Cass Gym. This work will occur in and around the locker rooms. Please be sure to check for any construction activities before using the locker rooms until the end of July. We have asked them to put signage on doors when their work is in progress. Concrete work at loading dock begins today
As a reminder, contractors will be working on replacing concrete at the Menard Hall loading dock starting today. This will limit access along this drive to the back of Menard and not allow any convenient turn around at the end of the drive. We anticipate this work to be ongoing throughout June.

Upcoming construction projects
Starting in the next few weeks, the construction management office will be working with contractors at several LLCC locations. A list of projects slated to begin is below:
- Cass Gym basement will have mechanical work in the locker rooms and corridors.
- The Child Development Center will have drainage repairs in the grass area to the south of the building.
- Menard Hall’s loading dock and Sangamon Hall South Boiler Room area will have exterior concrete removal and replacement work.
- Springfield campus parking lot light fixtures will be removed and replaced.
- Emergency generators will be installed at Logan and Montgomery halls and the Child Development Center.
- The LLCC-Litchfield front reception countertop/desk area will be renovated.
- LLCC-Litchfield interior light fixtures will be removed and replaced at both buildings.
- Logan Hall will have classroom/lab flooring removed and replaced.
- Menard Hall second floor will have corridor flooring removed and replaced, and walls will be painted.
- Logan 1132/1133, Millennium 2203/2204, Millennium 2237/2239 and Menard 2202/2203 are being renovated and converted to larger classrooms.
- Montgomery Hall will have (mostly) overhead mechanical work occurring entirely at night.
- Montgomery Hall will also have some work replacing flooring, ceilings and wall finishes in the east hallway during the day.
- Springfield, Litchfield and Taylorville locations will have exterior signage and wayfinding (phase two) work.
We hope this list is comprehensive and our goal (as always) is to be minimally disruptive to daily college operations. As you can imagine, with the number of projects beginning, there might be something that comes up that needs our attention. LLCC-Taylorville history wall wins national award
The history wall display at LLCC-Taylorville won second place (silver) in the category of interior signage/display at the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations 2021 Paragon Awards. The awards were announced Wednesday at the NCMPR virtual national conference. Those involved in the project include Dee Krueger, Greg Walbert, Steve Handy, Phil Burnett and Jud Walker. Congratulations!
Also at the conference, Lynn Whalen, chief communications officer, PRM, was installed as past president of NCMPR. Kyla Kruse, assistant director, public relations, presented “Be Heard, Be Recognized: Internal Communication Strategies.”
NCMPR, an affiliate council of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), is the leading professional development association exclusively serving those working in communication at two-year community and technical colleges.
Tree pruning on main campus begins today
LLCC Facilities Services is conducting late winter/early spring tree pruning in the main campus parking lot areas beginning today, March 1. For the safety of our staff and students, it will occasionally be necessary to re-route traffic and to close individual parking lots. Your patience and cooperation is appreciated as we work to improve the health and appearance of our campus grounds.

LLCC Facilities Services will be conducting late winter/early spring tree pruning in the main campus parking lot areas beginning Monday, March 1. For the safety of our staff and students, it will occasionally be necessary to re-route traffic and to close individual parking lots. Your patience and cooperation is appreciated as we work to improve the health and appearance of our campus grounds.
Disinfection of rooms and spaces
In an effort to provide a safe environment, LLCC Facilities Services has implemented procedures to manage the disinfection of rooms and spaces. You may notice signs posted on doors, “Space has been cleaned and disinfected. Please do not enter without permission.” This is your assurance that we have disinfected the commonly touched surfaces in this space since the last scheduled use of the room, as needed. For offices that do not have scheduled use, the sign would indicate that it has been cleaned since the last time you entered. We ask that you please respect the signs and do not enter a space unless scheduled. When you do access space, please help us by moving the sign to the inside of the door. We will return it to the outside after we are finished disinfecting as per the schedule. For an additional measure, we are also using a small piece of painter’s tape to “seal” the room. Thank you for your cooperation.
Disinfecting kits
LLCC Facilities Services will be disinfecting the commonly touched surfaces of classrooms and labs that have at least two hours between classes, per the established schedule. They are also providing disinfecting kits for faculty and staff to use when appropriate. The kits contain an EPA approved disinfectant, disposable paper towels, disposable gloves, eye protection and a spare face mask. Also included is the Safety Data Sheet for the disinfectant as well as guidelines for disinfecting.
Faculty and staff are advised to wear the provided gloves and eye protection, spray all commonly touched surfaces such as chair arms, table tops, desktops, door handles and light switches with disinfectant and let it sit for at least five minutes before wiping off with the provided towels. All towels can be disposed of in the normal trash receptacles.
Disinfecting kits can be requested by a department for a specific space by submitting a Facilities Work Order.
Very limited access on Sangamon first floor corridor over winter recess
Over winter recess, there will be very limited access on the first floor of Sangamon Hall as contractors will be removing and replacing flooring and painting walls in the corridor. They will be using caution tape to section off areas where they are working, limiting pedestrian traffic.
