Managing recyclable material

LLCC Facilities Services would like to ask for your help managing recyclable material. Some of our recycling dumpsters have been consistently overloaded lately with intact cardboard boxes. This has caused the college to incur additional fees. Please help us to eliminate unnecessary costs by breaking down boxes before throwing them into the recycling dumpsters.

As always, your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Fire suppression system testing Jan. 10 and 11

Facilities Services will be coordinating the testing of fire suppression systems this week. Testing at the main campus will begin Wednesday morning, Jan. 10, and testing at the outreach centers will begin Thursday morning, Jan. 11. Occasionally it will be necessary to activate the fire alarm horns during these routine checks. Your patience is appreciated as we work to maintain these vital fire protection systems.

Controlled prairie burns on Springfield campus

Lincoln Land Community College is conducting controlled burns on the prairie areas of the Springfield campus over the next several weeks, weather permitting. The burns will be on the upper prairie on the north side of Menard Hall, on the west side of the Workforce Careers Center and on both sides of the entrance to campus.

The controlled burns are coordinated by LLCC Facilities Services and have been approved by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

Sidewalk work starts this week

Faculty and students from LLCC Highway Construction Careers along with Facilities Services staff will be replacing a section of sidewalk from the east side of Menard Hall to the road on the walkway between Menard Hall and Cass Gym beginning this week. This project is a part of the curriculum and will benefit students as well as the college. Although the entrance to the building will remain open, access to the sidewalk will be limited until the project is finished. We appreciate your patience and cooperation while we work to provide real world experience for students while improving the campus.

Fire sprinkler testing July 17 and 18

As part of regular maintenance of life safety systems, Facilities Services will be conducting inspections of all college fire sprinkler systems on Monday and Tuesday, July 17 and 18. While it will be necessary to periodically sound the fire alarm during these tests, we will strive to keep disruptions to a minimum. Your patience and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
