Loggers at Busch Stadium Sept. 3

Fifty right-field tickets will be available for faculty and staff (and a plus-one) on a first come, first served basis. There are 10 $50 tickets (200 level) and 40 $40 tickets (300 level) available. The $40 tickets include a free jumbo hot dog and soda. All fifty tickets include free transportation from campus to the game and back on a charter bus.

LLCC announces 2023 recipients of Dick Dhabalt Athlete of the Year Award

The 2023 recipients of the Dick Dhabalt Athlete of the Year Award at Lincoln Land Community College have been announced. The award winners are soccer’s Madalyn Buxton of Springfield and baseball’s Porter Conn of Le Roy.

Madalyn Buxton is a sophomore center midfielder at LLCC. She was named MWAC All-Conference. She led the team with 9 points, 3 goals and 3 assists. Buxton earned a 4.0 GPA during the spring semester. She will continue her soccer and academic career at Illinois Wesleyan University.

“Madalyn led our team in points on the field and was exceptional in the classroom,” says David Myers, head women’s soccer coach. “She is the definition of what it means to be a Logger.”

Porter Conn is a freshman left-handed pitcher for the Loggers baseball team. He went 4-1 with 3 saves and a 2.12 ERA with 73 Ks in 46 2/3 IP. Conn earned First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference. Conn earned All-Academic Honors including All-Conference and All-American.

“Porter had an excellent freshman year. He will be a big part of our team next year,” says Ron Riggle, LLCC athletic director and head baseball coach. “Porter is a great example of a student athlete. I couldn’t be prouder of what he did this year on the field and in the classroom.”

The LLCC Dick Dhabalt Athlete of the Year Award recognizes annually one LLCC male athlete and one female athlete. The award was established in February 2015 in honor of Mr. Dhabalt, former athletic director, head men’s basketball coach and faculty member, and acknowledges his dedication to education, athletics and students at LLCC.

John Marsaglia returns as LLCC softball coach

John MarsagliaJohn Marsaglia has returned as head women’s softball coach at LLCC. Marsaglia previously coached softball at LLCC for 10 years with an overall record of 356-205.

Under Marsaglia, 2013’s LLCC softball team became the first in school history to make it to nationals, finishing ninth overall. The Loggers qualified again in 2014, finishing seventh in the nation. Marsaglia continued his campaign through 2015 as he coached the Loggers to the NJCAA Nationals for the third year in a row, this time bring home a fifth-place finish. Marsaglia and his team returned to nationals in 2018, and the Loggers achieved a ninth-place finish.

“We are excited to have John back at ‘The Land;’ he has so much knowledge, experience and passion for the game,” said Ron Riggle, LLCC athletic director and head baseball coach. “We can’t wait to see what he will bring back to the program.”

“I’m excited about the opportunity to coach softball and to be involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes on campus,” said Marsaglia. “Go Loggers!”

Marsaglia was named the Mid-West Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015. He is a retired middle school principal who has also coached softball competitively with ASA/NSA travel softball, high school softball and community college teams.

He has provided pitching instruction (Cobra Style Pitching Academy) to over 170 youth softball players from central Illinois. He has served as a softball clinician on pitching, catching and slap hitting as well as coaching fundamentals.

Marsaglia was a coach for the Central Illinois Lightning and the Illinois Bandits ASA travel teams (1992-2003). He was also a board member with the Lincoln Land Junior Olympic Softball Association from 1993-1998.

He replaces Ryan Hickman in the head coaching position. LLCC is currently seeking an assistant softball coach, with more information available by emailing John Marsaglia.

Congratulations to Chad Jones

Chad JonesChad Jones, women’s basketball coach, has reached another milestone in his career at LLCC. With the Jan. 25 Homecoming win, he became the all-time leader in LLCC women’s basketball coaching victories with 109.  He also holds the record for most wins leader for the LLCC men’s basketball team with 243 victories.
