Ron Riggle Day, May 3, 2024, LLCCYou’re invited! Save the date for Ron Riggle Day — May 3, 2024. We will be honoring Coach Riggle for his 34 years of coaching Loggers baseball.

2:45 p.m. – Recognition of Coach Riggle
3 p.m. – LLCC Loggers vs. Danville Jaguars

Earlier this year on Feb. 17, Coach Riggle reached his 700th win versus University of Arkansas Rich Mountain with a 7-5 victory. He has been to the NJCAA National Tournament eight times (in 1993, 1994, 1995 and 2000 as an assistant coach and in 2014, 2015, 2019 and 2021 as head coach) and has won the national tournament twice (1994 and 2000). He has been a part of five no-hitters and sent on over 200 players that continued to play baseball after their time at LLCC. During his time as head coach, there have been nine LLCC players who have advanced to play professional baseball.

Loggers advance to the elite eight!

National Junior College Athletic AssociationCongratulations to our LLCC women’s basketball team who advanced to the NJCAA Division II Championship elite eight! The LLCC Loggers beat the Union Owls of New Jersey in overtime Tuesday with a score of 76-73. The Loggers will face the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers on Thursday at 5 p.m. You can catch a livestream of the game on the NJCAA Network.

Loggers play in the NJCAA Championships this week!

Loggers Women's Basketball championship win.The No. 3 seed LLCC Loggers played host to the No. 1 seed Parkland College Cobras for the Region 24 Championship game on March 10 and won 70-50. “These kids have battled so much all year. Injuries, illness, you name it, and we dealt with it,” said Chad Jones, head coach. “I’m so proud of them for how they handled the adversity and just kept coming to work.” LLCC improved to 27-6 and will advance the NJCAA Division 2 National Championships in Joplin, Missouri, beginning March 18. The Loggers’ first game is Tuesday at 1 p.m. versus Union College. The game will be livestreamed on the NJCAA Network.

LLCC alum Brad Booker was in the news after winning an Oscar for best animated short film.

Chad Jones, head coach, women’s basketball, was interviewed by WICS on Friday, March 15 about the team earning a spot in the national championships.

Bill Harmon, professor and ag program coordinator, and LLCC student Alex Sidener were interviewed by the Illinois Farm Bureau during the national Professional Agricultural Student (PAS) Conference held at LLCC last week.

LLCC ag students Jhia Walker and Wes Bland were interviewed by WFMB about the PAS Conference.

Samantha Reif, professor of geology, was interviewed by WTIM on March 12 about the upcoming total solar eclipse, which will take place on April 8. LLCC will be hosting a Solar Eclipse Watch Party, including trivia, snacks, music, activities and a live stream of the solar eclipse experience from southern Illinois.

Three LLCC basketball players earn postseason awards

Three LLCC basketball players, Marley Smith, Megan Harrell and Camren Kincaid, have been recognized with postseason awards.

Marley SmithMegan Harrell

Smith and Harrell were named to the women’s NJCAA Region 24 All Region Team. Smith was named First Team All-MWAC (Mid-West Athletic Conference), and Harrell was named Second Team All-MWAC. Smith averaged 18.4 points per game through 27 games. Harrell averaged 14.3 points. Smith and Harrell were also the Loggers’ leading rebounders, with Smith averaging 9.3 rebounds and Harrell 7.9.

Camren Kincaid

Kincaid was named to the men’s NJCAA Region 24 All Region Team and to the First Team All-MWAC. He averaged 15.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He also led the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals per game.
