Oct. 1-7 is National Tutor Appreciation Week. Please take time this week to thank the amazing team of peer tutors that support student success on our campus. In addition to being students themselves, they all work hard to support fellow LLCC students in a wide variety of courses.

Meet your fall peer tutor team
The LLCC Center for Academic Success has peer tutors available for a wide range of courses. Peer tutors meet with students in person or online via Microsoft Teams by appointment. Some tutors will be available for walk-in hours as well. A complete list of subjects tutors can assist students with will be made available in the next week or two to deans and department heads to share with their teams. Peer tutors can visit classes to introduce themselves and share information about their availability and the benefits of tutoring.
If you would like more information about peer tutoring this fall or if you are interested in having a tutor visit your class in the first few weeks of the semester, please email Tiffany Elliott, academic support programs coordinator at tiffany-anne.elliott@llcc.edu with course number(s), room number(s) and meeting time(s).

CAS School Supply Pantry for Students in Need
In the LLCC Center for Academic Success, tutors and professionals often work with students who cannot afford to buy basic school supplies to help them be successful in their classes. In response to this, a small school supply pantry has been established in the CAS with supply donations from LLCC staff. Supplies currently available include new pencils, pens, highlighters, notecards, notebooks and three-ring binders.
If you are aware of any students in need of basic school supplies for summer classes or if you would like to donate supplies to the pantry, please contact Julie Clevenger at 217-786-2365 or julie.clevenger@llcc.edu.
Embedded tutoring online discussion
Tiffany Elliott, academic support programs coordinator for the LLCC Center for Academic Success hosted an online discussion of embedded tutoring Tuesday, May 23, to share information about best practices in designing, implementing and assessing embedded tutoring programs. Learning center professionals and administrators from 58 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada participated. Julie Clevenger, executive director of the Center for Academic Success, and Dr. Colin Suchland, professor of sociology, shared insights into the successes of embedded support at LLCC. Continued discussion and collaboration among participants in this event will take place over the summer to enhance awareness of the value and effectiveness of embedded tutoring and to provide space for learning center professionals and administrators to share their knowledge and experience, so we can all continue to enhance our support of students’ academic success.
If you are a faculty member interested in having embedded support in a course you teach or would like more information on how this program can benefit your students, please contact Julie Clevenger or Tiffany Elliott.
