Paula Luebbert, assistant vice president, corporate and government training, was interviewed by the Springfield Business Journal about the new contact tracing training being offered at LLCC’s Capital City Training Center.

Michelle “Micki” Smith, LLCC Community Education drawing teacher, submitted the winning artwork, “Just Let Me Breathe,” for a Ralph Lauren national design contest. The story was covered in the State Journal-Register’s article, “Artist: Award-winning shirt design offers ‘element of hope,'” picked up by the Associated Press and reprinted in numerous papers around the country.

ALL hosting “Zoom & Dine” with Chef Michael Higgins at 1 p.m. today

LLCC’s Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) has quickly adapted to virtual programming, embracing learning, exercise and interaction while also supporting local businesses. ALL is kicking off June programming with a focus on local restaurants.

Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president, will moderate a Zoom discussion at 1 p.m. this afternoon with Chef Michael Higgins, owner of Maldaner’s Restaurant, on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on local restaurants. The Zoom link for the discussion is https://zoom.us/j/91041237257

Chef Higgins has also prepared a special menu for ALL members to enjoy via curbside pickup from June 2-5.

This is one of many Zoom activities ALL is hosting monthly for its members, who are individuals 50 years and up devoted to continuous learning.

Laurel Bretz, director, LLCC Community Education, was interviewed on WMAY’s “Comeback Springfield” segment May 29 regarding the 10 free online classes being offered, along with other online Community Education programs.

Jessica Ingold, youth programs coordinator, was interviewed Friday by the Jacksonville Journal-Courier about the online College for Kids programs that will be offered for summer 2020.

Registration open for summer 2020 online College for Kids programs

College for KidsLLCC’s College for Kids programs will be offered online for summer 2020. Registration is open through June 15.

“We are excited to continue our tradition of providing quality youth enrichment activities and look forward to sharing innovative online experiences to help youth learn and thrive this summer,” said Jessica Ingold, youth programs coordinator. “Our lineup of programming accommodates those who prefer real-time experiences in addition to those who want to take control and learn on their own time.”

An expanded menu of popular Black Rocket S.T.E.A.M. Camps is now available for ages 8-14. These courses offer real-time experiences with instructors and other area students Monday-Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Youth culinary experiences are available for ages 8 and over. Students can choose up to three classes each from the categories of Bakeshop, Junior Chef and Pastry Arts. Ingredient kits will be provided to complete the recipes that are demonstrated in the accompanying instructional video.

Other online College for Kids classes are available in the following categories: Get Crafty, Science Studio, Language and Artistry, and Teen Time. Each course includes instructional videos and accompanying supply kits.

Culinary kits will be available for pickup at the Springfield campus. All other College for Kids supply kits can be picked up from the Springfield campus or one of LLCC’s Outreach Centers in Litchfield, Taylorville, Beardstown or Jacksonville.
