LLCC Honors Recital tonight

LLCC’s Recital Series continues today with the LLCC Honors Recital, beginning at 7 p.m. in Menard Hall room 2250.

The Honors Recital showcases the college’s top music majors along with advanced hobby musicians. The program features a wide variety of instrumentalists and vocalists. All LLCC Recital Series performances are free and open to the public.

Strategic Planning seeking volunteers

The Strategic Planning Team is looking for volunteers from the college community! We are in the process of forming individual workgroups to evaluate data and make recommendations, and we need your help.  Our workgroups will focus on the areas of Education, Socio/Cultural and Demographics, Economic and Industry/Workforce, and Regulatory to explore and interpret collected data within each area.  If you would like to participate in this process, please contact Scott Stallman or Jason Dockter. Thanks for considering to participate in this important process; your help will be invaluable as we formulate the College’s Five-Year Strategic Plan.

LLCC-Jacksonville Traveling Theatre presents “The Tale of Hannah Banana” to area schools in December

The LLCC-Jacksonville Traveling Theatre will hit the road with its production of “The Tale of Hannah Banana” on Dec.1, 2, 8 and 9.

The one-act musical theatre production, under the direction of Ken Bradbury, will be presented in 16 area schools, performed by 14 actors in the LLCC-Jacksonville theatre class.

“The Tale of Hannah Banana” is the story of a young cowgirl in search of what’s truly important in life and will be viewed by approximately 4,000 students.

David Sykes expresses his thanks

I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to everyone for their kind condolences, flowers, and cards in the recent passing of my mother, Mary Sykes.

We extend our condolences to Dave Sykes, professor of physics, on the passing of his mother, Mary Sykes. Services will take place at Dunlap Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson, Wis.  The visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday and the funeral will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. View the obituary.

50 Acts of Service

LLCC-Jacksonville held a Chili, Hot Dog & treats sale Wednesday, Nov. 9 and raised over $200 for United Way.

LLCC students worked along side students from Lafayette Academy, our Business and Education Partner School through the Jacksonville Area Chamber of commerce.

Here is your chance to spend an hour with Jason Dockter, Ph.D., Professor, English & Scott Stallman, Ph.D., Associate VP, Education Outreach, as they catch you up on the information captured that day with a summary of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats identified by you and the other folks who work here.  They will also offer related information from the environmental scan. The session will be informative, casual and fun, so bring your lunch and learn more about strategic planning.

Bird banding station reaches 15,000 bird milestone!

The LLCC bird banding station just banded the 15,000th bird (female northern cardinal) since the its opening in the fall of 2012. cardinals Other facts from Tony Rothering, professor of biology:
– We also banded our 800th House Finch yesterday.
– So far this fall we have banded 2268 birds of 77 species.
– The fall banding season will end this coming Friday 11/18.
– A final report for this fall’s banding season will be forthcoming.
– The spring banding season will begin the last week of March 2017.

Be sure to let us know and we will get it listed on the 50 Acts of Service webpage. If you have donated your time anywhere throughout your community, log onto the webpage to complete the google form so we can track all of our hours, too! SGA sponsoring Angel Tree

LLCC SGA is sponsoring an Angel Tree to spread joy and cheer to local senior residents of Springfield Retirement Village. Students, faculty and staff are invited to take an angel from the holiday tree located in A. Lincoln Commons and purchase a gift for the resident named on the angel tag. Gifts can be returned to the Student Life Office with the angel tag included.
