Kevin Lust, director, Illinois Small Business Development Center at LLCC, was interviewed Feb. 21 by WCIA TV on the effects of a proposed minimum wage increase on small businesses.

Laurie Clemons, academic advisor, was interviewed Feb. 21 by the State Journal-Register regarding the Frederick Douglass Soup and Stories presentation, part of the LLCC African-American History Month observance.

Jamie Stout, director, Community Education, will be interviewed today on WICS on the ALL Winter Celebration.

Voters in February 1967 approved the establishment of Lincoln Land District 526 with the mission of providing area citizens with affordable, accessible higher education and career training programs. “Today we celebrate the vision of our founders, the dedication of our educators, and the success of our students over the last half century,” Craig Findley, chair of the LLCC Board of Trustees, told the crowd of approximately 200. Mr. Findley recognized Eldon Greenwood, the last surviving member of LLCC’s founding Board of Trustees, and Bill Ames, who was the first student in line when the college opened for classes in September 1968. The KUDOS award is an informal way to recognize the small and large ways our faculty and staff contribute to the positive environment that is LLCC. Brighten someone’s day and say “thank you, great job!” with a KUDOS.

Dean Butzow, professor of geography, was interviewed by Sports Radio 1450 Feb. 14 on the upcoming storm spotting course at LLCC Feb. 27, co-sponsored by LLCC and the National Weather Service.

Mary Beth Ray, director, Advising, Counseling and Career Services, was interviewed on WICS this morning regarding the College Career Expo being held tomorrow at UIS.

Jay Kitterman, consultant to the Culinary Institute, wrote this week’s Epicuriosity 101 column in the State Journal-Register on his dining experiences in Disney Springs.

Take your Valentine to Chili’s and support the Honors Program Student Organization!

The Honors Program Student Organization Chili’s Fundraiser continues throughout the month of February.  If you show our voucher when you go to Chili’s (dine-in or carry out), they will donate 15 percent of your bill to us!  The funds will be used to help pay for our annual Chicago Museums Day Trip.  There are three easy ways to get your voucher:

  1. Check your mailbox this week (paper and ink for these printed vouchers were donated by a faculty member)
  2. Check bulletin boards around campus for printed vouchers.
  3. Click Chilis Voucherleft for a JPEG file which you can copy and save to your smartphone.  Chili’s will accept electronic copies of the voucher!

LLCC Athletic Hall of Famers announced

LLCC will induct 15 individuals and two championship teams into its 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday, Feb. 18 as part of Founders’ Day activities.

Inductees will be honored at halftime of the men’s homecoming basketball game versus Illinois Central College, which begins at 3 p.m. in Cass Gym.

Inductees are: Scott Blackwell, Christopher Booth, Scott Curtis, Andy Danner, Geza Ehrentreu, Kris Erickson, Jason Knoedler, Ryan Leach, Barbara Streeter-Montgomery, Rick Montooth, Emily Orrick, Scott Pillsbury, Mark Romer, Brad Squibb, Gene Vincent, LLCC 1974 Track and Field Team, LLCC 1994 Baseball Team.

The State Journal-Register photographed the Abe Lincoln Birthday Celebration and Homecoming Kickoff sponsored by Student Life in the Commons Feb. 13. The event included a presentation by Fritz Klein as Abe Lincoln and Kathryn Harris, president of the Abraham Lincoln Association.

Jay Kitterman, consultant, Culinary Institute and special events, was interviewed on WTAX radio Feb. 13 on the 9th Annual Lincoln Lecture.

Karen Sanders, executive director, LLCC Foundation and Lynn Whalen, executive director, PRM, were interviewed on Sports Radio 1450 Feb. 13 on Founders’ Day this Saturday and the college’s 50th anniversary.
